Weirdly (to me) my Born has no speakers installed on the rear doors.

AI (Gemini) tells me it had to do with cost cutting.

When I started to search for possible solutions, Gemini also told me that there weren´t even cables to connect to if I bought the speakers. And that a firmware update of sorts would be necessary to allow the head unit to recognize (and control) the speakers.

Is this true? Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks!

Not a firmware update, but some coding changes on speaker setup entries on infotainment unit (5F). Also the sound dataset on the unit supports most probably only front speakers and it would need to be replaced with the correct one, I suppose. If the car is manufactured before 2024, a capable retrofitter should be able to do all of that. If not, the car has SFD2 protection and you won't be able to change anything on the infotainment. Also there's the matter of the over-the-air updates (OTA) : The changes you made can be overwritten by an OTA update anytime.

A better solution would be to install a small DSP amplifier, route the front speaker wires to it, connect it to all four (or more) speakers and let it split & send the signal to separate channels.

Thanks for your reply!

That is insane.

The VW ID3 has front speakers only but our 2025 V1 Born has rear speakers as does the Raval as standard. Rear speakers are not great though I upgraded my Raval rear's to Kenwood. In the Born the bias is greater to the front as the rear speakers are full range and no separate tweeter either so sound dull not bothered to change those though.
