I have a UK (RHD) 2017 Seat Leon Mk3 with a wet drivers footwell. Having researched this site I have checked all the common usual spots for water ingress. However when checking these places and the area immediately around them it's bone dry (The carpet and the underlay). The wet patch feels like its just infront of the drivers seat on the left site towards the centre coloumn but further back than the AC drain pipe.

  • I have checked the AC drain pipe and that is bone dry.
  • I've checked the driver door speaker seal and poured water in to verify that the water comes out of the appropriate drain holes in the door and they're not blocked.
  • I've also sealed the drain hole under the scuttle and the footwell is still getting wet.
  • All the door seals look fine and no signs of damage.
Are there any other common places I need to check? Is it possible its leaking from underneath the car? It just seems odd that the part that is getting wet is further back than where all the usual common leaks are.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check the coolant level when I next get an opportunity.

Forgive me for a silly question, but would it not present with the passenger side getting wet rather than driver side? Having looked at videos online for the heater matrix the pipes are on the left side.

Also, the damp patch doesn't smell sweet and would that not be the case if it was coolant?

Really appreciate the suggestion and will definelty check it out.

@Eliginator - does your car have a sunroof? Blocked sunroof drain pipes isn’t that uncommon and if they do get blocked, water can find its way into the car’s cabin. Also, with the mk3 Leon’s sister car - mk7 Golf - there have been instances of water ingress into the rear footwells working its way to the front of the cabin so it would be worth checking the rear footwells for dampness too. While you’re doing that, for completeness I’d also check the boot floor, spare wheel well and the rear seats for dampness.

I found these discussion topics that might be worth checking out;

Yes heater matrix pipes are passenger/LH side.
Mine leaked (due to small o-rings loosing their roundenss!) and it wet the passenger side - and yes it smelt 'sweet'.

Those are the a few of the threads I'd seen before @SRGTD. Maybe I just need to be a bit more aggresive with pulling the carpet back to reveal the bare metal underneath. Just not sure how I go about it. The underlay seems to be stuck down. Will just pulling it, pull it back? Or am I going to have to remove seats?

Yeah I thought as much @SuperV8 and that side is bone dry. I'm really scratching my head.
