Good evening,

I was driving along and got a failed bulb light and message about the left headlamp day light running light. Sure enough get out of the car and the DLR has failed on side. Headlamp itself still works.

The car is not even two months of out the 3 year warranty and It looks like this will cost well over £1k to fix :(

Does anyone know any cheap workarounds? I was thinking can the DLR lights be switched off on a computer and hope this stops the failed bulb light?

Many thanks

Many thanks,

I can just about see that unit on the headlamp, Looks like a bumper off job :(

I had the same problem. The LED module replacement will not work as the DRL fiber integrated within the headlight is most probably burned where the LED send lights thru it (this was my case: LED module burned the fiber). More than that, the garage told me that if the LED failed, is most probably due to the LED driver located below the headlight that sends abnormal amperage to the LED module.
So, to make it short: I had to replace the headlight completely (1200 EUR), to buy the LED module (250 EUR) and the LED driver (300 EUR). They had to take the bumper off and to readjust the new headlight (300 EUR). Total cost: 2050 EUR.

The DRL modules do just fail over time, nothing to do with the headlight control module so the garage likely charged you for unnecessary work

The light tubes do occasionally get burnt when the DRL module fails, however they can often be cleaned up enough for correct functionality

The scenarios can vary, but that was my case. I tried cleaning the burned fiber and it didn't work, it was simply too dimmed compared to the other headlight, so in the end I went for a full replacement. Regarding the control module, you might be right, I could choose to use the old one and see what happens, but since you are investing a lot in the new headlight and in the work to do it, just adding another 300 euro to make sure everything is new, it was a good deal for me, and I have now a full warranty for the entire headlight.

Total cost of headlamp: 2050 EUR. You can buy an entire car for that price.
