saved yourself a massive bill too. Glad it was as I thought and the extra cost for towing was justified. Shame about the bill but could be the turning point for your mechanical knowledge of your car

Yup, am glad I listened to yourself and the others who replied to my other post in the mk1 section. £188 this month along with £245 for road tax is still better than £1k - £2k at any time lol, and as you say I understand the car a bit better now, getting there.

Never mind, payday next week, gonna order my R32 ARB to cheer myself up :D

haha I did mean the car but that picture of the actual scarlett is pretty flattering, I'd like to take a look under the hood on both accounts

Heh heh ;)

More on the reversed DV - never noticed this with the valve in the normal orientation but when I get to about 5500rpm the turbo whistle seems to go a lot higher, it's like it's kicking in all over again. Definitely pulls a good bit harder from there up to the redline. Made me wonder, could the car not be boosting properly between when it starts to whistle about 2200rpm and going a lot higher/louder at 5500? Guess I'll need to get some logs done to have an idea.

Speaking of logs, found this one kindly done by djhorace just after I got the car, back when it was still totally stock. Maybe if someone who understands these things a bit better than I do spots something I need to be aware of they wouldn't mind posting? Looking at the "Mass Flow" column, assuming that's MAF figures the max shows 181.28 g/s, which roughly equates to 226.6 or 231.1 BHP, depending whether you like to multiply by 1.25 or 1.275 :)

Tiny update... Today ordered a Golf R32 front anti-roll bar, should be here next week. Was inspired by a certain black mk1 LCR around these parts I met on Monday this week and decided I needed to start on some handling mods before getting silly with the power so guess this is the start of £££'s disappearing faster than they appear.

Next will be the brakes. They've started squealing when I've been giving it the berries and tonight on the way home from work I had occasion to stop ASAP - and didn't stop as quickly as I hoped. No collision, no damage, just didn't stop nearly as quickly as I'd thought I would. I know the discs are past their best but think I need to get them changed and some Ferodo pads too, so that's next month's beer money out the window too...

Ok time for another update... Just back from a weekend in Glasgow visiting some of my g/f's relatives, while down there managed to drop the car off for the day on Friday to get the wheels refurbished as my birthday present from aforementioned g/f :) ...

imag0151d.jpg

imag0152t.jpg

They were coloured in titanium after having being dipped and stripped, shotblasted, having kerb damage filled in and a slight dent in the lip of the offside rear straightened out, drive in/drive out same day service in Glasgow for £200. I'm not sure if we're allowed to say who's done work here if they're not forum sponsors so if anyone's interested then PM me and I'll tell you who did it.

Also got another wee toy for the car, a Jetex cone filter. Managed to do a temporary install before I left for Glasgow by mounting it direct onto the MAF and resting it in the lower half of the OEM airbox for now, got some silicone tube and metal joiner coming this week and will head to B&Q and see about getting something to mount it more securely to the chassis.

On the downside, on the way back from Glasgow this afternoon noticed that there seems to be a strange clicking/scraping sound coming from the rear offside wheel area under braking at low speed. It seems to slow down and stop in time with the car and its' wheels. Can't see anything that would be causing that but will have to investigate properly tomorrow evening. Had to head straight back out when we got back as the g/f was collecting her new car, a 56-plate silver Mazda MX-5 2.0i - no turbo so not enough oomph for me but it's a step up from her 1.3L Suzuki Swift :)

love Red cars when clean and mint - looks lovely that mate

Cheers :) Still needs a bit of work to be mint, there's some stone chips and scratches needing a bit of ChipEx, could do with replacing the R badges and the splitter is looking a little bit worse for wear but she's not in bad shape.

Cars looking fresh as feck now
seems like there are a good few shiney Leons up our way now

Cheers buddy :) aye there's a few now, started seeing another red one at my work lately and another black one I pass most mornings and evenings going the opposite directions to me, maybe they'll find their way here eventually...

Another wee update, got my Jetex cone installed, well sort of - it's a lot bigger than I thought it was gonna be (think it used to belong to DPJ, I bought it from another member on here that said it did anyway). Was hoping to put a bit of cable-tie round the narrow end and fasten it to the bracket inside of the nearside wing that the OEM airbox used to mount in with the little rubbery bit on one end. It's a bit big for that so for now it's wedged fairly firmly against that bracket bit until I work out what to do about securing it.

Any ideas? It'd have to be something I can easily knock together with parts available from Halfords or B&Q as I have no access to any metalworking facilities nor much by way of engineering skills.

On the plus side it's made a definite improvement in performance, the car pulls a good bit harder, sooner and for longer through the rev range, even in higher gears. Had a good run in it tonight and reminded myself why I fell in love with the car in the first place :) Another happy Jetex fan here now.

Had heard that about vibrations killing MAFs, think it'll be ok for now as it's jammed in there fairly snugly. Will raid B&Q for some array of brackets and/or clips at the weekend and see if I can bold it in to one of the holes the airbox was fixed to.

Next job will be to get some 3" flexible hose and get the bumper off, run some cold air feed in place of the snorkel. May have to look at some battery relocation brackets too, so as to get it out of the way of the new cold feed...

Yup, seems there's a few ways to do that, gonna do some reading on that subject tonight. This forum is as much a mine of information as it is a money pit, lol...

Yes, that was mine. To be honest, I ran it with a ball or bubblewrap wedged between its head and the round-holed bracket on the inner wing. Never had a problem. Glad it's found a good home. :) Can you ease it away from the battery cover to get a bit more airflow?

Cheers mate, when I found out it had been yours I was a bit chuffed to be giving part of your car a new home, read a lot about your car since I've been on here. Quite fancied some more of the bits you've been selling too but spare funds this month and the last couple have been pretty much zip.

I got an 80mm P-clip off ebay which arrived yesterday so hopefully today I'll get time to take the filter back off again and look at getting something a bit more stable sorted re. mounting it properly. At the moment it's just kinda wedged against that circular bracket bit on the wing and the back of the battery box but will hopefully manage to get it away from the battery today.

Unfortunately I think the car is gonna have to go to the garage today or the start of next week, since getting the wheels refurbed there's been a sort of clicking sound coming from where we think is the rear offside wheel under braking. It stops as soon as I release the footbrake so I think it probably just needs new discs which is on the plan anyway. Was hoping to hold out to get EBC ultimax all round, if i have to replace rears now then I'll have to just get what I can afford :(
