RICA ECU upgrade on Leon 2.0 TD 170

Wow, what can I say! A massive difference. Went to RICA Chip Tuning Ltd in Bromsgrove to get the upgrade. 204 bhp and 410 Nm was the version we got, but they told me they are working on some more versions. What is amazing is the end of the rev range. Standard it felt flat, but now it pulls right to the red line. Cost me £470 all in. Not bad me thinks, and a very happy chappy! I love it.

Not when the partical filter starts to block up. I know of one car that the partical filter got clogged up and ended up on fire.

Think that is going to be the biggest limiting factor to this engine, might even find people getting better results using the 140bhp engine for tuning.

Yep quite agree, that why i went for the Pd140 engine in my last car. I don`t know how hard it is to remove the particle filter without causing engine management problems but until somebody finds a way of doing it tuning the PD170 over 200bhp and you are asking for big problems as the partical filter will gradually block.

I've had the upgrade for about 2 weeks so far, without any problems.

JD did one with filter. It could run 230BHp but safe is between 210 and 220 Bhp. Other tuners haven't managed this as yet.
Since a Ibiza Cupra PD160 turbo is a GT1749V which is basically a VNT 17 and a PD170 turbo is a GTB1749VM which is the same VNT 17 turbo internals but with a different housing and manifold since the turbo is fitted to the engine at a different angle then th PD160 turbo. 220 bhp would be really pushing it on a standard turbo but even if the turbo did manage to push enough air and stay realiable i bet you the partical filter will not last very long before it starts to block up.

Where abouts is this filter that every one keeps going on about?

The filter is built into to front of the exhaust system.

TBH i would be happy with the 200bhp from 170, if i wanted more i would have bought the petrol TFSI, when my car has done the mileage i will be getting the remap.

Can the partical filter be removed - like a de cat pipe and would that then fail the UK MOT??

REVO have now got a 170 Passat to play with, be interesting to see what comes from that.

I do remember a well known tuner trying to map a 1.4 with a DPF without great success.

These DPF's do seem to be causing some issues.
