LCR Tyre Reccomendations (Not GSD3's)

I know this has been done a million times before but the search otion just brings up a mass load of threads reccomending the goodyear F1 GSD3 tyre so i thought i'd start a new thread to see what other options there are and ask advice from people what they think of them.

I already have 4 goodyear F1 GSD 3 tyres on the car and they have not lasted long at all, yes all 4 are now close to the limit even though they were all brand new about 12000 miles ago. Acceptable for the front, but the back :blink:

They are a good tyre, i just want to try something else now

On mytyres.co.uk, they rate the falken FK-452 tyres highly along with the toyo T1-R tyres.

Any reccomendations?

At prices shown, surely the falken tyre is worth a shot, its the cheapest out of the 3 and joint favourite with the toyo

I swear by the Toyos, Mitchy. I get just over 10000 on the fronts. (due for my fourth set soon) the rears have done over 30k and have probably got at least another 15k left in them.

This doesn't really help much but I had 4 GSD3's fitted recently and I cannot believe how shite they are in the snow. My previous SP9000s did at least pretend they had grip for a bit - GSD3's just spin at the mere slightest of contact.

I didn't expect them to be any cop in it, but there is bad and then there is bad!

Dunlop SP Sport Maxx on the front of my LCR for the past 12 months. Excellent tyre, loads of grip in wet and dry and the rim protector has saved my alloys on more than 1 occasion.

Michelin PS2's. Very good in both wet and dry conditions and excellent feedback.

My mate owns a tyre place - he knows I like my GSD3's, but kept suggesting I try the T1-R's. I think they will grip just as well, but wear out quicker. I'm not sure about Falken's - I have heard people talk about them quite positively, yet the tyre guy doesn't rate them at all (as in, not bad for the budget, but not a perfomance tyre).

Another one to consider is the Vredestein (sp?) range, quite a few of the BMW chaps use them. Again, I always fitted F1's to my M3, but another guy swore by them. Good value for money certainly.

I had Toyo T1-S on my Clio 172 Cup and they seemed to wear quickly and were quite noisy. Good grip levels though. The T1-R are a better tyre by all accounts but Toyos don't seem to be the bargain they once were.

I have T1-R on mine at the moment ( came with the wheels) and whilst they are lousy in snow ( anyone expecting a summer performance tyre to be ok in snow is mad) they do seem to be as good as the GSD3 I had and certainly better than the potenzas the car came with.

I've just put a pair of Micheln Pilot PE2's on mine - The 182 comes with them as standard and they have been excellent on that, so thought I'd give them a try. Had them fitted at costco (around £120 ea IIRC) so the new ones are on the back but feels pretty reasonable at the moment (am running Conti's on the front, which aren't bad, but thought I could find better).

The original set on the 182 have managed 16.5K on the front, and are just about ready for swapping, so haven't done too badly....

Yokohama Prada 2's on our lasses, seem more toward dry performance but not that back in the wet.

I get them for about £100 each (about 30% less than black circles etc.)

They look great as well.

I personaly don't like directional, fine for the wet but not a performance tyre IMHO

Another vote for the Toyo T1Rs here. I had both the GSD3s and the Toyos on my Impreza and the Toyos definitely lasted longer with minimal performance difference.

Ive just bought a set of 4 Toyos for my Leon from Mytyres.

I run Falken 452 on rear of my ibiza.... ok dry, not good in wet, especially copared to eagle f1's (which I use as wets)

Dunlop SP9000 or Maxx, never heard a bad word about them only good things. Apprently a much better all rounder in wet and dry than the GD3

Yes I'm talking about T1-R s. When they're worn, you can distinctly see where the two compounds meet.

I've got Avon ZZ3's on the rear of mine at the mo, and can't fault them (apart from the price

)

They were an emergency replacement, as the tyre place only had them or Barum (Continental) in stock.

If they'd have had Toyo's in, I'd have definitely gone for them, as I had them on my Ibiza and were fantastic.

Just replaced Toyo T1-S 's all round on my LC and checking mileage I've managed over 16000 miles on them, and I don't drive like Grandad all the time.

Grip was good but as others have said they were a bit noisy early on, until well worn in. However price of them or T1-R's is now almost up to Eagle F1 levels, so this time I've gone for a set of Kumho ECSTA SPT's, which Micheldever recommended as a viable more cost effective alternative.

They were certainly good in the snow yesterday but will have to report in due course on other factors.
