Hi,

I've got this error on my Mk2 leon.
2.0 TDI

01314 Engine Control Module No Signal/No Communication Intermittent

I'm getting startup issues when this appears.

Garage have identified it as a fault in the ECU.

Does the error code help identify the issue or is it just a generic ECU error?

All opinions welcomed :)

I'd start with the engine control relay or wiring to it before I put it down to the ecu itself which lets face it - very very rarely go wrong.

I do know that they spent time testing the wiring and they checked the relays

In the case of an ECU fault, is a repair a valid fix or is it just a temporary thing?

Would you know of any reccommended places for repairs?

I did ask if they checked the relays and I've been told they did.

leaving aside the cost and time, would it be better to get my own fixed or get one of their pre-repaired units?

You can spend an age testing wiring and relays but if you don't do it correctly then you never get a penultimate result.

I've seen loads of cars with apparently condemned ecus which are nothing more than a chafed wire, faulty relay, popped fuse etc

Never have I seen a faulty edc15 or 16 ecu.

Unless the repairing company removes the immobiliser off a replacement ecu you'll have to get yours repaired, which should be a permanent fix.
