92k miles, and the reverse gear is beginning to crunch ever more regularly. All other gears engage fine.

What can I do to fix it?

New Redline MT90 gear oil? (never been changed)

Another clutch cable? Had one not so long ago.

Must be more to do with the selector mech?

Ignore it, my old car did it for 20,000 miles and it never got any worse or affected the driving of the car. Its still going strong 50,000 miles later

I work for Peugeot and they do it brand new from the factory!

what do you expect its a pug they all have shitty gearboxes, feels sloppy as hell and just generally crap. Seriously tho it could be your clutch not disengaging properly.

hmm sounds like someones been banging it into reverse when still going forward:(

The 02A gearbox uses 5th gears sycro ring to match the shaft speeds when engaging reverse. If you remove the end casing to reveal reverse gear setup and get someone to select reverse you will see the gth gear selector hub move towards the gearbox slightly. 5th gear syncro can be replaced with the gearbox still installed, I'd change it an see how it shifts.

mine crunches in reverse if i dont let the revs drop right down. like goble said it could be from someone ramming it in to reverse before they have stoped.

Reverse only. Only myself that drives it for from 16k miles to 92k. I can't say that I put it in reverse whilst rolling forwards.

If 5th gear snycro is a problem then would I not notice other problems? I have no problem engaging 5th or downshifting from 5th.

Syncro's are only used when engaging gears but you could quite easily get a crunching into reverse but not 5th even if they both use the same syncro ring as the torque carried through reverse gear can be approximatly 40 more than 5th!!
