Hi people!
I have a 03 SEAT Ibiza 1.9 TDi (130) and I need some advice if possible.....here's the deal with my nightmare of a car.....see what you think...apologies as its complicated.
My car has had an intermittent failing immboliser for the past 10 months or so but it has now become so bad that I have to leave it several hours or overnight before it will start. It started off when the coded key started to flash on its own and when put close to the car would lock and unlock the car, I changed the battery but no change. I evenutally just gave up and used the manual key. The problem then started as an alarm going off for a second occassionaly when I started the ignition and maybe failed to start 1 in 10 times but would start second attempt or maybe after an hour or so. I mentioned this to SEAT who to cut a long story short didnt listen to me and broke my car so that it wouldnt start again and the alarm went off if you breathed on it (they were convinced that I needed a new key and the key recoded ignoring the fact that it was intermittent.) I was without a car for 6 days while they 'undid' the damage. I have my car back and its pretty much the same but the alarm doesnt go off and it fails to start several times a week.
I once called out a recovery service to pick me up and funnily enough it started just as the guy got out of the truck. Before he went he said he had had cars before that had been sensitive to radio waves given off by cctv cameras and that maybe that was the problem. Now, I have to admit that everytime my car has had to be left overnight or at least if I had to go back a few hours later to start it, it had always been in a public car park with cctv cameras. The thing is that one night my car was in a multi storey car park and right next to the exit barriers which funnily enough also (apparently) give off a radio signal. My theory was that when the truck finally arrived it was late and the barriers were no longer being used to let cars out as I was the only sad person there.
Now all this has since been accepted as a possible BUT... I have now done some research and there is a thing called REIN.
My car always starts outside my house in the morning and until today in my work car park... (its there now as I speak)
The other interesting thing happened the other night when I went to fill up at the TESCO petrol station and I noted that the light above the car was flickering and there was a strange noise coming from the pump. When i got back to the pump after paying the car failed again so with help from a friend we moved it maybe 40 foot backward and tried to start it IT WORKED!!!! The link about the land rovers did say that faulty electrical devices do give off this REIN and can interefere with immbolisers so I do think there is something in it. Last week my car failed at another pump and I had to get help to push it into a car park close by but it didnt start that time, I went back two hours later and hey presto started no probs!! I've also parked it outside one of those residential power station thingys that are kept in a fenced of area and its failed there too, only to work half an hour later. Also its packed up outside sliding doors too which is also consistent. I'm seriously loosing my mind and dont want to give up on it just yet as its only done 60k and its got new CAM belt and new tyres!!....and anyway if i drive it to a dealer the chances are it wont start and I'm gonna look a bit suss....Plus I have morals!!!
Apparently I cant change the frequency of my immboliser as its set as standard and SEAT have never heard of the problem...so say SEAT. They also think that the 'control panel' panel with speed dial, fuel etc is not standard and may have been fitten by previous owner (It has yellow trim around the dials)
Anyone heard of this?
Anyone know how this could be fixed?
Anyone want to buy my car he he ??
