My 2008 PD170 (68k miles) has the same battery in it from new and coming into winter I feel that it is starting to get a bit sluggish when turning over to start even though it starts no problem.

Do you very knowledgeable folks think it would be time to replace this battery?

If so is there any battery you would recommend to go with, also the car is mapped could changing the battery have any effect on this or is there anything else I would need to be aware of while changing the battery?

Thanks for looking :)

Hello,

How sluggish is it when starting? 1/2 turns? It might be worth getting one if you feel it's on the way out.

I recommend VARTA batteries! Check your local motor factors, they should be able to cross reference batteries by physical dimensions, then it is always better (especially in colder weather) to get a battery with the highest Ah rating and CCA (cold cranking amps) rating that you can for the size of battery that will fit in the battery tray.

There won't be any issues with your map when changing the battery.

Hi Glanza V!!

Thanks for the reply did not know about CCA at all, everyday is a school day! Will look at the battery code in the Leon and cross reference this as you suggest.

Cheers

cold cranking amperes (cca) is the amount of current a battery can provide at 0 °f (−18 °c). The rating is defined as the current a lead-acid battery at that temperature can deliver for 30 seconds and maintain at least 1.2 volts per cell (7.2 volts for a 12-volt battery).

Probably the most important rating for cold starting performance

[/lesson] :D
