Think I'm I'm right section!

Bought a 12v with dropped valve an hole in piston.

Fitted 2nd hand engine today,

Have a small breather pipe coming off egr valve and can't see anywhere where it goes to?
Checked air box but no pipes going to or from it and nothing within reach on engine of the breather pipe either.

Any help please as its hunting due to this pipe.

Thanks

Not a 1.2, but on my wife's 1.4 16 BBY engine, the small pipe just drops down and has a crude screen/filter on the end to prevent any debris being drawn in. I think that this pipe supplies a small volume of cooling air to the EGR body. Also, I think on some cars it gets connected to the air filter.

Edit, I don't think that it should be hunting due to that pipe being missing, most modern VAG engines rely on a MAP sensor in the inlet manifold, so any air leaks up to that point should get ignored.

Thanks, I seen online at what I could find that one engine had one pipe from throttle body to air box but obviously that's at back of engine, there are pipes on air box but just from front to back of air box itself and are not needed to be disconnected,

The way the pipe runs is like it sits level with or above egr valve level and goes in direction of back of engine (judging by shape an way pipe sits is like its been sitting like that)

And the end of the pipe goes wide like its been pushed onto something.

The end of the pipe would be flared out a bit if it had been fitted to a filter/screen - like I referred to, and the pipe would tend to sit a convenient position, basically anywhere.

Yes it is flared out like its been fitted but nowhere on air box or near where it goes

Both same engine code auq or awq or something,

Is there chance the engine I got to fit has pipe from egr to air box and my old er doesn't ? So will need old egr?

Its sucking air so is a vacuum of some sort, this I'll cause hunting and bad idle

It is possible, but I'd still say that just because it is drawing in air through its body does not mean it will be causing the resultant mixture going into the engine to be wrong. Have a look at an on-line VAG parts catalogue to see what the differences between the two engine codes are in terms of EGR and piping.

Edit:- sorry I see that both engines are the same code, so forget comparing different codes, but still have a look at that on-line catalogue as normally they show were pipes terminate.

On back pipe from air box, bottom of it was turned up an pushed on where egr pipe goes to?.?

From what I can figure the back pipe does nothing, smoked air system an so leak from that pipe so maybe leak off or summit,
