I've been looking at the 1.2 ibizas and some are group 2 insurance and others are group 3 and, to me, i can't tell the difference. I checked if the number of doors made a difference and it doesn't. Could anyone help on this?

just looked on parkers i think its just the differnt trim, like the S n reference are 2 and the SX is a 3 and the freerider is 4, all with the same 1.2 engine.

Different insurance companies have different banding systems, so don't trust the likes of parkers.
 
Also check what output the engine is, there are two 1.2s: the 64PS, which was changed to a 70PS during summer 2006. I found that the latter adds around £20 to the annual premium.
 
plus there's a 1.2 s like mine or a new 1.2 reference sport which has facelift bumpers and looks sportier, could also have something to do with it!
