bud, o can honestly say, just dont bother, a good car to base on is craigs white ibiza and matts black ibiza, just visual difference make a world of difference, dont worry about performance yet, as already said, get some more driving experience, i was somewhat supprised when i went from my 1.4 to the 16v gti, you can go faster but my god you can crash a damn sight quicker,

ughh i really am gonna have to give up and wait 10 months till i get 2yrs ncb and get a 2l 16v someone wrote off my 1.4 so im getting another for now as my insurance company wont insure me on a gti and i dont want to switch insurers and loose 2months of my ncb such a s :censored: situation

1.4s arent that bad though, they might not be powerful but they are reliable and efficient. slow and low comes to mind... a bit of stance will make up for the slowness ;)

As said, you would be surprised at how much quicker the gti's are, so it's probably better to wait until you have a bit more experience in the 1.4 and can drive that properly before you get one.

I went onto an 8V Gti at 18 after a year in a 1.4, and have come fairly close to crashing it a few times, that extra torque means you can't just whack the power down coming out of corners like you can in the 1.4's. I actually wish I'd kept my 1.4 polo for another year and then got a gti. Once you get used to the extra power its alright, but low powered cars are very fun to drive fast, whereas quicker cars make it too easy.

Don't bother trying to tune the 1.4 8v either, people have tried over on the polo forums, but theres not much to be gained from them without spending big bucks.

a good gti even standard should have about 120hp+, twice the power of the 1.4 and alot more torque. it cost me 1000 with no NCB for a 1.4, then a year later it cost me 1000 for a gti with 1 NCB. it was worth the wait.

Thanks mate, I didnt think mine was that good a 'base' to look at/compare to.

Yep exactly, I like my 1.4 and its great for an everyday car, which mine is used for. Cant get great economy from mine and is pretty reliable.

I have to agree with that, when I have a good blast in mine it is very fun :funk:.
