i cant see it as all it would be doing would be blocking airflow , and as you said there is no where to plumb it into on a non turbo car , , i have a 1.4 sxe aswell as the gti , and the best thing i have maaged to do is put an exhaust system on it , not much differnce at all ( if any) , as for a chip , there not much that can be done with a 1.4 , i asked all these questions when i first got mine also , some people will say "just buy a gti" as was what i got told , so i finaly did , either that or there wont be many replys , but thought id give you one as i have went through the same with my 1.4

sadly buddy there isnt a lot you can do.

Just get it sitting right on some nice springs or coilovers....some nice wheels to boot and you'll be fine. I am guessing your new to driving ?? so just get past your 2 years with out clocking up 6 points and loosing your licence but do it looks low and fresh.

If you got something like a 1.4 your best bet is show not go. As said above mate get it lookin nice some subtle mods get it low on a nice set of rims then u wont be worried about the power.

Its all about LOW & SLOW baby

I can see where he's coming from though - I know it may be pointless, but is there any way that you can improve the throttle response on a 1.4? I know they're only 60bhp, but it's nice to have at least something happening when you floor it lol ;)

As said above, not much point doing anything to a 1.4. Having a quick car isnt all about horespower and acceleration. The 1.4 will never make a drag car but if you sort out the suspension setup and roll bars, my god you can get them going well round a track! (even with a standard 1.4 engine). Thats what ive done to mine and it will easily have a standard setup 2.0l car round a twisty track or b road. And thats with half their horsepower! ....now whose laughing!:D

Just look at cruiser 87 and an engbudd

Engbudd has arguable one of the nicest ibiza’s on here and that only a 1.4…

Leave the power till you older mate, any money spent on exhaust’s, decats, induction kits will be a waste.

I was at a RR a while back and there was a chap there with a Corsa who had spent £2000 on his 1.6 engine and managed to get another 15 bhp out of it….it didn’t even look that nice….its just not worth it buddy.

Telford ay it...
I think I say this in every 1.4 thread......Is it a similar lump to the 1.3 in a Polo GT? If it is then there must be a whole packet of things to do.

Pump the tyres up to 50PSI, will gain atleast 1mph top end - and it'll cost you nothing!

If you really want it faster then strip it, best thing you can do to a 1.4 in terms of performance, and maybe exhaust and panel filter but thats it unfortunatly.

Or get NOS.
