Hello, happy new year to you all!

I have a 1.4 Ibiza, v reg. I want to upgrade my brakes to gti ones, I can get hold of a complete rear axle. But as far as the fronts go what parts would I need? I have 16' wheels on at the mo so what brakes should I go for - 8v or 16v? Any help would be good! Thanks!

u can go for both but if your car has no ABS then i dont recommend 16v brakes if not go for the 8v they are great

i wouldnt worry about the rear axle, i dont think they are all that special, but unsure weather just upgrading up front to a 256mm or 280mm will screw up the bias of the brakes

I think I'll change my rear axle from drums to disks anyway, been on my list for a while now!

So if I got 8v brakes upfront I wouldn't have any problems with fitting? Would clear my 16' wheels ok? How big are 8v disks?

Im sure Surcalation changed his front brakes to a set from a 20v T and didnt change the rear beam.

I wondered the same thing as Im thinking of upgrading my front brakes.

you can upgrade to 280mm brakes easy with out any problems or major work... the rear axle nice a nice mod and looks better than drums and give better stopping power the valve doesnt matter what size brake u got really... i think u can fit 312mm behind 16"... 256mm or 280mm or 288mm will fit fine... i wud personally go for 280mm and get rear disks later on as that setup will stop ur car easy....

Converting the 239mm discs to 256/280 mm discs will require the correct type of hubs/uprights to go with the calipers, dont swap the drums to discs if you've not got ABS or not intending to fit bias valves, you'll just end up with a car that will lock the back wheels up real easy when you mash the brake pedal.

Been there and done that:)

Did you not do a guide on this F2 Stu? sure i seen it somewhere.

Would be a good mod if you were to go mental and throttle body your 1.4 if not stick to standard drums

Well I'm trying to get a really good set up, only got a 1.4 at the mo but want to get the car ready for a vr6 conversion in the future.

I'll have 8v gti bigger disk conversion on front with drilled and grooved disks with updated pads
Gti rear disks with same drilled and grooved disks and updated pads

Front and rear strut braces
Poly bushed lower arms

Braided hoses worth buying?
Anything else worth changing?
