My quickest is 14.3 which I ran most of the time last year. Had my first blast this year at GTI spring festival and only managed 14.6 but with a massive head wind.

Just a remap, race exhaust and CAI

Alex> Where was that, what trap speed, and what remap?

Couldn't tell you terminal speed, around 96/97MPH I think, managed 98 once but wasn't my quickest overall run. All my runs have been at Santapod and I'm running a Jabba remap.

Good to see what quarters these cars can run guys with a bit of modification.

Only one thing to note, not meaning to piss on anybodys fire but i feel times at crail are a bit micky mouse.

On the 205gtidrivers forum its been discussed loads before, why are ppls crail times considerably quicker than their times at santapod in the same car?

Take this for an example, my friends been doing loads of santapod runs in a 190bhp (jamsport) striped out 205gti with an mi16 engine carbs cams headwork etc. His best time 14.2 at the pod with slicks and an quaiffe. This car only weighs 850kgs, not 1100 (thats being optimistic) like a seat. Kind of makes some of these crail times look dubious? Yet some of the crail times are similar to this for a 190 bhp lard arse seat.

Another example, a guy with a similar engine spec ran a 13.2 (with video!) in his 205 in a similar spec car at crail. When he tried his car out at the pod his best time after lots of runs was 14.6, couldnt beat it.

All im trying to say is, run all of the cars at santapod and then you can compare quarter mile times, all the headwind and hot day stuff makes a slight difference granted, but only tenths of a second, not over a second as the previous example shows!

Nice time for the clio by the way! very very impressive.

Rant over

This topic has always been debated.

Folk go on about Santa Pod being the "bench mark" as its used for professional drag racing. Do you think these drag cars laying down all that rubber makes it easier or harder to launch? Folk go on about Santa Pod being hard to launch. Crail doesnt have that problem. That could be the difference.

I agree its not ideal to compare cars from different locations/dates, as there are so many variables.

But If you look at 15, 17, 18 and 19 on the table. All are mk3 cupra's with a stg1 remap, all around 200bhp and all getting 14.6/14.7 from different strips (crail, pod, and somewhere in hungary???)

Mekko's time seems to be a bit out of the norm, but then so does alexoakes.

My times from crail have always been inline with santa pod times so from my experience the rumours about about crails set up are pish.

Meeko just knows how to launch a fwd car better than me!! Bugger!:p

No mate i'm offshore at the moment but if i was home i'd have been taking the bike down because the car is still not fixed. It's been off the road for nearly 2 months now, insurance inspectors going to have a look at it this week some time i hope.

When i get it back it's going a diet!!

Yip it's a right bugger.

Just checked your 1/4mile page and i'm still 5th, woo hoo rock on!!

I'll be on the track later this year!!!:rocker:
