1.4 or 1.8

i drove both and opted for the 1.4 due to price, tax, consumption, having the same torque meant there wasn't much difference in day to day driving, cracking little engine.

Digressing a little, does anyone think that Seat should adopt Audi's 2.0 tfsi 190 to replace the tsi 180, it has 320 NM also .....i would

With 1.8 TSI you can get the manual, chip tune it and get that 50 Nm.

I can’t find much in the way of mapping options for the 2.0 TFSI 190PS currently but see that a DTUK tuning box takes it up to around 240PS and 400Nm of torque, which is just within the 420Nm limit of the new DQ380 DSG... so, if that engine is priced at around £1500 more than the 1.4 EcoTSI, it’d be a very tempting upgrade for those of us who don’t do high mileage but can’t quite justify the £7k extra for the Cupra

And therefore almost moves the car into A3 2.0TSI 190 money when comparing FR Trim to Sport in the A3.

A Cupra is £6-7k more than a FR. Not to mention the difference in insurance and fuel economy.
I had the chance to buy both the 1.4 and 1.8. The 1.8 was much more fun and responsive.
So that's what I went with

yeah true price.... however i never buy new, bought the 1.4 FR with 1000 miles with 8k discount compared to new... it still had the new car smell

that's a huge savings and a very expensive 1000 miles for first owner

I think I overpaid for my Leon, but it was the only one in the south west, so I couldn't do much about it The depreciation on any Leon scares me a bit.....

I think the gap between 1.4 TSI and 2.0 TSI Cupra is too big money wise, power wise, sense wise.

The 1.4 is a brilliant little engine. If 1.8 TSI and 1.4 TSI were equally priced or the latter was a bit cheaper, I'd go for it.


Prices in Bulgaria are:
1.4 ACT FR Trim 16 922 pounds
1.8 TSI FR Trim 16 409 pounds

With 1.4 you get better economy
With 1.8 you get bigger brakes, better rear suspension and 500 quid to cover some of the fuel cost.

If you are doing around 10 000 miles per year, the 1.4 ACT will break even at the end of the second year. Or at the 4th year, the 1.8 TSI will cost you (gas only) 5-600 quid more.

If you are doing more than 15 000 miles per year, it makes sense to get the 1.4 or even go for the diesel (if most of it is extra urban)

BTW in Europe, the Seat doesn't depreciate that much. It holds value rather well. Especially the Petrol engines, take a look at mobile.de

We have 1.8TSI DSG and can compare it to 2.0 TDI 150 Skoda Octavia. The Leon with the proper suspension and 40mpg wins hands down over the Skoda with Torture Beam suspension and 50mpg. 1.4 Leon with an extra 10mpg or proper suspension, I personally would go with the better suspension, and the extra power is a bonus, oh and the better sound, oh and it stops better too!
