Not sure how accurate it is, but after filling up the trip computer says 280 miles, I have yet to see that though, i usually get around 250 (no motorway regular motorway driving at all)

I should be accurate - but only if you drive these next 280 miles like you have driven the previous few miles - ie without any cold starts.

I vented my petrol FR loads of times, in fact almost every time I filled it up. I never ever had a problem in 4 years of ownership.

Brimmed mine to the top the other dat and the trip says theres 325 miles in the tank.

The trip on mine used to say that but i worked out that if i drove an average of 38mpg according to the trip i would get another 45 miles (i tried it several times keeping my RAC card to hand ) on top of the comp reading when the light came on. the comp seems to always read 20miles to fill up when the light comes on.

you gotta let us no what you do actually get on the run from leeds to cornwall

Well I was only quoting a (hopefully) well meaning Tech, and I considered as usually I don't need to start off with a fuel "over load" I'd take that advice onboard and stop "brimming" my cars. I just thought that it was better to be safe than sorry - and in this instance raise the points for others to use as they want to. Mind you, when "fuel crisis" time happens, I revert back to brimming as survival with enough fuel is better than getting the bus, but normally I'd still avaoid doing this.

just tested it with 3/4 of a tank and done 200 miles so far with just under 1/4 of a tank left ....And thats with driving to work and back home for the week !!! so i will probably do 230/40 miles on 3/4 of a tank...

ok so i have done the Leeds to cornwall trip....I vented the tank on the way down and got 51 litres in the tank and did 353 miles on 1/2 of a tank......On the way back i filled up without venting the tank and did 353 miles with 1/4 of a tank left....overall i did well considering the car was loaded to the max with camping gear, my 2 kids and the wife

i can imagine milage should be something similar to my 1.2, i get around 300 miles a tank out of mine, record for me has been around 330-340

Does anyone have any idea what i might be able to get out of a full tank of diesel on my 1.4 tdi? The boss will be doing southampton to basingstoke everyday so its mainly motorway miles.

yes it was mostly motorway miles i think there was about 40 miles out of 353 miles what was country roads mate

Since changing jobs and a commute that is virtually all motorway, my last two fill-ups have got me 374.8 and 375.0 miles!

Is this normal for a 1.4 petrol??

Hey there, just got back from a 210 mile round trip in my 100hp 1.4 FS and by the trip comp' I averaged approx 40mpg, thats with myself and 2 passengers (the not so slim 'rents). Travelling at a good speed as well, though DID NOT over do it,i.e. 90-100!! At these speeds your fuel economy will drop into the 20's possibly even into the high teens!! It all depends on how (a) How heavy the traffic is and (b) How heavy your right foot is!!

Bog standard unleaded from Morrisons.
I'm running on 205 tyres at 33psi front and 30psi back.
Don't know how I'm doing it 'cos I'm not holding back on the right foot.
It's really annoying a mate of mine who been boasting for ages about the MPG from his diesel Ford Festa.

I have been doin some serious mileage this year in my 1.4 FS and have been closely monitoring my petrol consummation!!!! I reckon as long as your not doin over 80mph you should easily be gettin 380 miles out of a full tank.

I make it about 95 miles per £10 of fuel given the price of standard unleaded.

P.S my motor seems to have developed a nice air sounding "pssssssstt" as I change gear after about 4000rpm. Car has done about 12000. Have I just not noticed it before?

Only had my car for 4 weeks now but first thing I noticed was a nice little intake roar, my friend has told me to fit a cold air feed pipe to the intake bell!!??
