My parents was just in at seat today to get their Ibiza serviced so i asked them to ask for me about my oil consumption on my cupra....

Told them that my consumption average's out at 1lr every 600 miles and seat said this is 'within normal limits' but have given my dad some things to check so i'll find out what they are later and let you all know :)

Top it up slowly little at a time and wait 5 or so mins. Usually about a litre so ive heard but not sure. WOuldnt advised just pouring a bottle in.

Jay

Am not putting anymore in just now, gonna leave it till garage see it next thursday. Got the impression they were not keen to do much as it had satisfied SEAT guidlines weighing the oil after 60 miles and it appeared to have uses none. But 388 miles later its only showing at 1/3 of the shaded area.

Even suggested that it may have used more oil if i had been enjoying its perfomance a little more than normal FFS!

Isnt that what the cupra is meant to do as its a performance hot hatch. They do make you laugh grrrrrr

Had my tsi motor rebuilt after SEAT agreed it was using too much oil - new piston rings, etc. Just completed 1000 miles after it's service and the oil was at the bottom of the dipstick again - 900ml to take it up to the max level on the dipstick. Do NOT agree to an engine rebuild if offered and push for a new engine as you're wasting your time otherwise.
Cars done around 12000 miles since new and is a great car - just uses a s**t load of oil.

Very interesting mate. That would be my biggest worry having the rebuild done and it being still as bad. My car has done 13500 miles in total. Going by your 900ml to take it back would suggest ming has used over 500ml in under 400 miles.

Why don't ya get them to do it on a Saturday or something and you watch them measure it and go out with them for the 60miles or whatever then watch them re-measure it make sure it's being done properly like.

I guess you're using the local dealer a wee bit up the road from you. Let me know how you get on - if they're going to do anything push for a new engine. Other owners have had new engines, it's the only way to solve your problem. Its not costing your dealer anything - SEAT will foot the bill for a replacement engine.

I'm using FIFESEAT in Glenrothes. Been ok so far but am not got the patience to get the work done twice! Will refuse rebuild and demand new engine. Am too old to take piss from garages these days, did in the past tho lol

What dealer did your engine swap?

Your not trading your car into them are you as I just drove there bronze one last weekend and they phoned me on tuesday saying they have a white Cupra coming in. Must admit these issues are really putting me off getting a second hand Cupra. Might go for the clio200 however they have gearbox issues lol. O what to choose.lol

Not selling it. Mines is a boc.

Hi ST33LY I take it you were looking for a white Cupra at Fife Seat? I got an email from Fife Seat asking if I was still thinking about changing my car as they had someone looking for a white one.....

Sly I had high oil consumption on my Cupra so took it back to FIFESEAT. They were really good. They weighed oil after using the car for 50 miles and the manager said it would be piston rings that need changed. In the end thats what they done. Been ok so far and I have done about 1500 miles since it got fixed. Think my car was in less than a week if I remember right. Don't ask me what amount of oil it was getting through because I didn't take note. I was only interested in it getting fixed.

Hope you get your's sorted soon mate.

Hi, as i said they did the weighing etc and it didnt use any according to their weighing process. But 3 weeks later and 388 miles its lost half the dipstick. As it hadn't used any after they did 65 miles in it they kind of reported back to SEAT that the case was closed etc.. Its going in next thurs to get looked at and am not putting in any oil since the service/weighing so they can examin it then.
Am not keen on getting the rebuil as it wont be the same knowing its been ****ed about wi by them.

Right after fridays chat with my local dealer they did seem concerned that my car was using alot of oil but they said its within limits. But what they told me to do was to:

Leave the car to sit still for a few days, then when you turn the engine on for the first time get someone to see if the first "fumes" to come out of the exhaust were clear or blue. If they are blue then there is oil leaking onto the pistons while the car is sat still and the piston rings need to be relpaced.

Also the tech guy said that if these engines use any other fuel than super unleaded then that would damage the exhaust system but that is another argument lol

Just thought i'd share the info!

That's a load of bollocks, it would have to be coming down from the valves/ cams in that case due to gravity.

It seems there is no easy fix to this, even replacing the engine might not solve it.

I would have told them to GTF! Its not the customers job to diagnose problems. Can u imagine a 70 year old pensioner looking at engine smoke etc?

Stealers are well named!:D

To be fair to the "dealer" i got the info 2nd hand via my parents so i might be doing them a mis service in my write up above but that was the jist of it, also im not at all tecnically minded when it comes to engines lol......

Will prob get them to a oil comsumption check soon whcih i must say thay are more than happy to do

Mate that was me. Text me on07834154523 with all details and i'll get back to you. Cheers Craig

Been doing a bit more research into this problem and it seems they have been plagued by engine issues since the beginning, resulting in engine swaps etc. :)
