hi am having a few probs with my mk1 leon 1.6s 16v, prob been posted before but couldn't find anything,

first and main thing is the idling on the car, it seems to be erratic when the car has warmed up, some times stalling because it drops low?? when im in traffic it just goes up and down between 500 and 1500 rpm without me touching pedal

also i have no response from my wiperstalk button on the end mpg/clock setting/ dont know why? maybe fuse

and the rear washer jet dont work either but found other threads on that alredy

all these little things are annoying me so please any help or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks
Paul

Hey Paul I'm no expert on these kinds of things but I'll just offer some advice that I've noticed over the last couple of months from reading...

Do you have access to VAG com? Plug it in and see if any fault codes show up

And I'd say erratic idling is probably down to either faulty MAF (mass air flow meter) or coil pack ... have a search for those two things and see how you get on.

hope that helps you a bit [B)]

How old is your car? My 1.6S (also 16v) doesn't have a button there (although it looks a bit like a button) so just shows outside temperature on the bottom of the clock...

yes thats all it shows is the temp? there is a weird switchy thing at the end of the stalk which can be pressed but does nothing??

haven't got vag com but will check both of those thanks

the 1.4s and 1.6s don't have anything else available on that display, only temp; or atleast my 52plate 1.4s didn't

oh ok thanks dont know why there is a switch there then strange!

also, try unplugging your maf and see how the car idles then; if it is okay, then your maf is dead..

dont want to sound stupid but can anybody explain where the maf sensor is plz
thanks

I have been having exactly the same problem with the erratic idling. Have had the car to 3 different garages spending over £500 and still no change.
Last place I took it to told me there isnt a Maf sensor on the 1.6:blink:
When I get chance I'm gonna check over all the air pipes to see if there is a leak somewhere, its driving me mad.

It looks to me from the diagrams that some 16v 1.6 engines don't have a MAF. These are the engines with an air filter built in to the engine cover, using the 4LV injection control system.

Get someone with VAG-com to read the faults, then at least you'll know where to start. I'd look at the throttle body, maybe it needs a clean? That's assuming you have already tested the coil packs.

yeah its that type of engine, that sounds good because ive looked everywhere but cant see it there is a pipe/hose which comes off to go down the bottom some where thats on the side of the box/cover i dont know if thats it?but yeah the air box is directly above the engine fits straight over the air inlet on the engine, how do i check the coil packs?? thanks for all your advice.

sounds to me like it could be the throttle body perhaps mate?id try giving it a clean and if you can get hold of vag software re adapt it too

hi not that i know of its an exhaust gas recirculation valve which apparently helps keep the emmissions low, and links between the manifold and throttle body. i think:whistle:
