Hi all,

can anybody give advise n the correct oil to top up with between services ? its on fixed service, also correct coolant ? I know its g13 but can only find purple and i thought it was pink, not sure if there is any difference and if it can be mixed ?

Thanks

Oil, would be 5w30 Castrol. If serviced by dealers, if following the manuals.
In between services I'm using Mobil 1, as I'm running a tuning box (DTUK), so choose to change oil every 5k miles, as I'm only covering about 10k a year.

You need an oil with the appropriate VW approval. On fixed service intervals this can either be a 502 00/505 00 oil or you can use the long life oil with 504 00/507 00 approval. Viscosity is less important, so long as it has an approval.

Without sounding like a complete :censored: - Why not have a look in your owners manual? You can view them online here: http://www.seat.com/owners/your-seat/manuals-offline.html

From my experience it is 5W30 Castrol as mentioned above and I recently topped up my coolant on my Ibiza Cupra (1.8TSI) with 'TRIPLE QX Antifreeze (Purple G13) (Ready Mixed) Antifreeze/Coolant 1Ltr)' from EuroCarParts

I am glad this thread appeared as I have a 1.8Tsi........... how do I know what service plan I am on? Sorry if that's a really daft question! Only asking it because 1) I don't know and 2) It appears it could be linked to what oil is used?

I've just been through this with the local VW dealer. Spec is VW504 Castrol Edge 5W-30LL, they gave me Castrol SLX 5W-30 OE Professional which I later found to be VW505.1.

I'll use it because it won't be in the car for the full service period, but I'm not impressed that they use a different oil to what VW requires.

I’d be more concerned that Castrol SLX was discontinued several years ago. Decent enough oil, but obviously been hanging about for a while.

They must be running out their bulk stock. I bought it because the only other option was 10 litres of Castrol Edge. Just a bit pricy for me.

VW only allow 504 00 and 507 00 to be together, there’s no choice. For a TSi engine only the 504 00 is relevant as this is the petrol engine spec, 507 00 is the diesel spec.

the one I'm using:

the one I believe it's the recommended, or at least it's what the dealer was using:
https://www.opieoils.co.uk/pv-98270...6-litres.aspx?vehicleid=37013&yearfilter=2014

Specs wise, should be BOTH VW 504 00 and VW 507 00 present. There's many options, but as mentioned, keep attention to both specs.

That's right. But they aren't doing 1 litre bottles down here in the Antipodes. That meant buying two 5 litre packs.[:@]

As no one has really covered the coolant side of things G13 is the correct coolant to use don’t worry about the colour of it as long as it is G13 it is right don’t worry about mixing colours

The Variable service interval baseline is 30,000 Km, approximately 18,640 miles, which is what you see on the service reminder after a reset. That gets tweaked downward for things such as number of cold starts etc

Or whatever they can purchase the cheapest in bulk that meets the min. spec..

Both those ^ oils (of which for me I'm not keen on due to consumption usage) are expensive when compared to others, that cost less if you hunt around..
