12v into 5v DOH!!!

Just had to replace the 20A fuse for the socket in the cabin. Grandson wanted to charge his phone so I said go ahead and he stuck the charger cable in the 12v socket. The youth of today just seem to lack general knowledge.

I don't get it. It was a car charger for the phone? They normally take a 12v supply.

I thought usb chargers were all 5v. Maybe the cigarette lighter adapters step down the voltage?

Slightly confused myself. Thought all USB adapters output 5v?

When I read the OP's post I thought he meant that the USB end of the cable was pushed into the 12v socket.

Sorry about the confusion. As guessed by some. He put his charger lead straight into the 12v socket. Rectangular lead into round 12v socket.
