As a warning to others, I have to admit to making a potentially very expensive ****-up.
I wanted new rims to take new winter tyres and I did my homework (or so I thought) before splashing the cash. I didn't do enough research, apparently.
I bought some original Seat 16" alloys (part #5P5071490) mentioned on another thread even though I knew they would be a tight fit on my 2009 FL FR170 (318mm front disks). Other posters say they have fitted 16's so I thought it would be OK and when the wheels arrived, I checked the clearance. It looked tight (as expected) but OK so I ordered a set of Goodyear Ultragrip 8's to go with them.
I'm just back from the tyre centre having been told that whilst the rims are OK, there's no clearance for the balancing weights. Aaaargh!!
I ordered the tyres from Kwik-fit (don't laugh, their price was as good as anyone's) and they have kindly agreed to refund the cost of my now unwanted tyres. I now have to return my rims to my
Seat dealer in the hope that they will be able to do a p/ex on a set of 17" rims. If not, I may be putting 4 nice new 16" alloys on eBay soon.
At first glance, the 17" tyres are going to cost MUCH more than the 16's - which is why I wanted to fit 16" in the first place.
