depends what look ur after matey im after the euro look so been advised slammed n deep dish 16's

If you slam it on the ground with 16's its going to catch everything.....I've already caught my bumper on a hump and I'm running 18's without a front splitter at the moment.

16's would be a nightmare IMO.

Why would 16" wheels cause any more of a problem than 18" wheels? The diameter of each wheel when the tyres are on is identical.

because youd have to lower it a long way to achieve the stance you would want....the leons arches are huge and take a lot of filing
also 16 tyres nowadays arent much cheaper than 18s due to unpopularity.

It's not the size of the wheel that is relevant in this, when the tyres are on, the wheels (including tyres) would be the same diameter. The car would need no more of a drop on any diameter of wheel to get the gap between the tyre and wheel arch the same.

Because the chap said he was going 'Euro look' thats wide/spaced out small wheels with stretched tyres, a 16" with a 195/40/16 stretched across it is going to be no where near as big as a 18"

No, I agree, it's not is it, although the original poster doesn't seem to be going for that look?

My comment was based on maintaining the rolling radius the same as SEAT intended it to be. Reducing the rolling radius like that will play havoc with the gear ratio's, speedo readings, recording of mileage covered, suspension geometry, handling, etc etc..

Yeah but the original poster was asking about 17 and 18 not 16"......I was replying to the post directly above mine where the other chap was talking about 16" hence my reply about 16".

Sorry if I confused you I should have quoted the post :)

No problem, I never realised that the Euro look involved reducing the rolling radius, I assumed that the reduction in wheel size was compensated for by putting the correct size tyres on.

my fault sorry was just throwing some ideas about i didnt realise it knocked all the clocks readings out either i guess i wont be going that route :( either

Choice made!

Cheers everyone, i think im gunna get 18" and then if it needs lowering a bit i will :D

i have 18s on mine atm mate theres still quite a gap looking to try lowering mine around 60mm if possible as said before it will still be the same height ect just less black rubber ;)

Yep excatly right, a 18 with a 225/40/18 is eever so slightly smaller than my standard 16's were, I'd say I'm lowered about 60mm on mine :)

18's

Seeing the difference on Becks car the wheels look like 19's when lowered (had always assumed they were). With the arch gap they look more like 18's.

Lowering springs and decent ones can be had for £130 (Eibachs), but if you lower too far on the standard damper you will find the spring won't complement the damper. I did this years ago with catastrophic effects, and the progression of the damper stroke was so out of kilter with the spring that the car was terribly unpredictable handling wise).

anyone no how low he would have to go though to lessen the gap ur on coilover arent u adam? i dont think they do a 60mm drop on springs either that or i just cant find them lol
