170PD MPG and DPF issues

Hi guys,

Just bought a 170pd about 2 weeks ago. I used to have the old 150pd engine (was brilliant).

Not impressed at all with the 170, doesn't feel as quick as the 150, plus i'm only getting around 34mpg (when taking it steady). In my old 150pd I could floor it everywhere and still get 43+mpg. Ive had the DPF light on twice in 2 weeks.

Do SEAT have a return policy if you are not happy with the car?

What MPG is everyone else getting in the 170s?

Where is best place to get DE-DPF'd, and what price?

i get about 45mpg on average (driving both economically at times and flooring it at times)! 34 is quite low to be fair

Just dotting about we're getting around 35 mpg and about 45 on a motorway run. I can cane it and it doesn't drop below 33.
I was getting about 21 mpg in my Zafira Gsi, so 35 mpg is great to me.

In 3 months of owning the car, the dpf light has been on a couple of times but that was in the first 2 weeks of having it, nothing since (touch wood). This from mostly short journeys too.

If you floor the PD170 everywhere then you'll likely see low MPG figures and the DPF light - it's crap economy anyway (for a diesel) so flooring it will just make it worse. Plus you'll shove more soot through the DPF.

Town driving expect to see around 38.

I dunno if you'll be able to return it or not with it being 2nd hand?

my overall mph was no more than 38 had a 2004 vw bora 130 tdi auto that was appalling about 30 mpg as for the dpf light keeps coming on could just be a sensor

i get around 42 with 40mph roads with the cruise on! Ragging the **** out of it i get 28-34mpg and motorway at 65-70mph i get about 47-49 (dont ask me how) haha

Just really disappointed with the MPG (from owning the 150pd) steady driving 34mpg which is crap really. 34mpg in a diesel is like 28/29mpg in a petrol, the new emissions law (or whatever) is getting stupid you are not benefiting by having a diesel anymore.

Anyone with the DE-DPF got any regrets?

If you definitely think there is something wrong then it might be worth having someone do a fault code scan. Sometimes when there is an issue the engine will over-fuel because it's safer to run rich than to run lean.

Yeh maybe mate, tbh there shouldn't be too much difference between a 150 and a 170 should there. The only thing is the DPF which is really annoying, ive read all about it and it just seems they are restricting the engine so much.

We get about 42MPG to a tank in the Freeteack with the same engine, and between me and the wife (it's her car) it gets driven quite hard. That's with 4WD and 150kg extra kerb weight as well...

To and From work i seen 25-32mpg,Motoway i usually get 42mpg

I had a really steady cruise once with a mate in his PD140 Golf, He got 63mpg and i got 51mpg

Nah I'm used to driving a diesel mate and also that's driving steady. So I'm not sure what the hell is the matter with it.

Sounds like it needs the garage. I tend to get 43 to 44 on average but have seen well into the high 50s when just cruising on the motorway at 65mph

i was asking the same question mate.ive done 3k miles in mine now i dont drive steady and i do motorway and town,the computer is showing 40mpg over that milage.about 8 down from my mk5 golf which was 140 mapped to 170bhp

Have to say mate it sounds like there is a problem, my commute too and from work is around 15 miles round trip, some motorway, some country B roads. and i get minimum 42 out of it, and that's giving it a bit of a boot in places too.

If i drive like a woman and sit at 60 on the motorway, i can get 55-60 out of it...

So i'd get it back it to the garage asap pal!

Thinking about swapping for the FR petrol as the insurance is just as cheap. Any problems with the T FSI FR?
