18x9.5 on the rear - possible?

Going for a set of staggered wheels.

Fronts - 18x8.5 with 215/35 et40
Rears - 18x9.5 with 225/35 et45

I've the car well lowered on coilovers.

Anyone else running this combo?

Why would you want wider rears on a front wheel drive car? Purely cosmetic?

BMW's often have wider rear wheels+tyre combo, but thats because they ARE rear wheel drive, hence getting more rubber on the tarmac for the "drive wheels", to take the power = more traction.

On my Bentley's, im running 19x10 on front with 215/35 and 19x10 on rear with 225/35 so i cant see a problem .

Not saying it causes a problem, although handling will change a little with this configuration.

But at the same time, there's a reason BMW add wider profile tyres & wheels at the rear, while SEAT (or any other FWD manufacturer)...... don't.

So no extra works has to be done, to get a 9.5j wheel at the back ? I am looking at 18" 9.5j et40 at the back and 8.5j 18" et40 (or et45 seems available) and the front.

Some tyre manufacturers have minimum/maximum rim width charts for their tyres, but here's something I copied off the net.

Rim width......Min tyre width......Recommended tyre width......Max tyre width

9"..................235mm.................245 or 255mm......................265mm
9.5"...............245mm.................255 or 265mm......................275mm
10"................255mm.................265 or 275mm......................285mm

As you can see 215's on a 9 to 10" rim is much too narrow; the tyre is far more likely to suffer a structural failure (probably at high speed) when stretched on to a rim width it isn't designed to fit.

ive got 9 on rear a nd 8 on front and its pretty slammed i got 215 on rear and a 205 on front and it just about scrubbs with people... tbh i never had any tyre issues with this strech and i love rounabouts

Well, it's your car, but if you had an accident and the insurers found out that your tyre fitment is outside of manufacturer's specs, they will void your insurance.

Personally, I would not want to risk my safety or that other road users by using a part in way it wasn't designed to be used!
