hey people,

i'm buyin a new (from a breaker) distributor complete with cap, arm etc...

just gonna try it as my problems seem to be timing related...

just in case it aint the problem, would anybody be interested in buying a complete dizzy assembly for 2.0 16v ABF?

just testing the water![B)]

is the idle air control valve working and has the injector duartion been checked on a scope?

yep - the idle/air valve was cleaned and the injector duration was checked and apparently fine.

next job is the dizzy, just to see if the hall sender is knacked

i have now officially run out of ideas.

changed the whole dizzy last night to see if the hall sender was playin up.

zero difference.

all symptoms look like a timing problem, but i'm going to clean the throttle body anyway. Can't see this making a lot of difference so any other ideas are greatly received.

now been 5 months since this fault occurred and it hasn't run in 3 months, and i'm £400 down on pasrts alone!

thanks goble - the first thread covers about all but to save looking back:

ecu - fully tested (including submersion in water) - no fault
Fuel pressure regulator checked - fuel pressure perfect
plugs changed
leads changed
dizzy cap changed
rotor arm changed
dizzy changed
temp sender changed
temp sensor changed
ecu relay changed
crank sensor changed
injectors removed, cleaned & checked - fine

it shows no fault codes stored, and even when it won't start - all readings (on a top spec diagnostic jobbie - apprently!) are normal

I've searched a load of forums Vw and non, and i've just about exhausted all previous solutions to problems with the ABF engine.

any advice is much appreciated mate......as GK seat in derby is looking more and more likely!......they can't say they can't fix it?!? can they????

when it was running, it was fine. once the engine had warmed up there was no inkling of a fault. if warm, you could even stop and start it again without a problem. problem starting from cold got worse and worse - idled poorly, cut out etc, it would sometimes idle poorly for a couple of minutes till hot and then run fine.

however, won't start at all now - doffs on one or two cylinders and dies after a max of 3 seconds. aint' got hte tools to do a compression check to see if i've done real damage........

fuel pressure seems fine, theres obviously fuel getting through as it reeks of petrol when i've been turning it over for a while. Spark wise, there must be as it does start on two cylinders??

i had the same problem on my Preg 2.0 16v cordoba i sold it like that 2 years ago and only recently got it running he done all the same checks it was in a local seat dealer for 15 months he had it back had a local mechanic have a look and the earth wire to the back of the gearbox had come away hope this might help

Just seeing if your complete distributor was still for sale?? I have a 2.0 16v abf with some annoying problems. Please let me know if you have it. Thanks!"

yep the distributor is available, as it made no difference to my car. pm me with contact details.

i've now tried the gearbox earth & cleaning several other earth's too - with no difference.

The car goes to GK Seat next week. I give up.
