Can anyone tell me what differences they are between the 150 and 184bhp.. is it a different turbo or just a remap?

From the basic research I did :

The 184 has the following over the 150
1. Bigger turbo
2. Multi Link rear suspension ( torsion beam on 150hp )
3. 312mm front brakes ( 288 on 150hp )
4. 272mm rear brakes ( 253 on 150hp )

Wonder if its a big job to upgrade the brakes... Was thinking of going all out and getting the cupra 280 brake setup installed

Most brake upgrades are quite easy to do if you are using the parts from a higher spec version of your car.

288 to 312 on the front is easy - bolt on conversion - lots available and pretty cheap to do.

253 to 272 on the rear is easy - bolt on conversion - a little harder to find

IIRC - the Cupra brakes are 345mm up front - that needs 18" wheels to clear them

Last time I looked the 345mm brembo front brakes on the VW range were still holding silly money.

Suppose my warranty will be void then?

That depends.

Some of the VW range use exactly the same caliper & pads on the 288 and 312 brakes.

If you got hold of the correct caliper carrier and a pair of discs you would not be altering the OEM caliper/pads/fluid etc.

And to be honest - I don't think some of the mechs that they employ would ever know the difference.
I changed them on my Ibiza at 8 months old - and they were never spotted or commented on during servicing.

Do you really think you'll get a noticeable difference in terms of performance?

The FR150 is the only warm hatch I've ever had (no hot hatches either) and I think it will be probably the last. I've had it since October and I can think of many occasions when I could really put it to work on a bendy A road. So much traffic and slow drivers afraid to overtake those that are even slower. It's a shame but driving ain't fun in the South East. :(

Is it worth spending 2k to trade my 150 tdi in for a 184 bhp??

Indeed the bugger turbo makes a difference but with a remap and air filter change, u can easily reach the 184hp figures from the 150hp and brakes can be swapped easily either.

however i personally do prefer the Multilink rear suspension over the torsion bar, car does have noticeable difference on the ride and very minor characteristics difference too.

Just try them and see which one fits you more
