Good morning ladies and gents.
I’ve embarked on my holiday to Cumbria (150 mile trip from home) for a week, I’ve been meticulously checking over the car before the day on Friday, including oil, coolant, tyre pressure and torque spec on the wheel bolts as I had new tyres up front.
I decided to do a little fluids check up whilst I was here after a long drive with lots of stop start driving as traffic was a nightmare.
Coolant is good but engine oil… it was on zone A (according to the owners manual) before the journey, when I checked it is in zone C, I’ve had a bad experience with excessive oil consumption in the past and I fear it will be piston rings, I’m just wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences with engine oil consumption on the 2.0TSI DKZA engine, my 2017 S3 made the same journey last year with not much stop start driving and at a constant 70mph for the majority to the journey and I never had an issue from as far as I can remember.
Safe to say I will be driving to Kendal today to pop to Halfords to buy some 0W-30 VW 504 00 (unless anyone gets in touch to say I’m wrong) before it gets too low.
any information would be appreciated as usual!

The piston ring issues on the EA888 engine are a thing of the past now. Just keep an eye on it.

Have a trip to Pappy's Texas BBQ while you're in Kendal and you'll forget the whole thing 👍

@BradleyH - Don't forget to let the engine stand for 5-10 minutes before you check the oil level. Always with the car on flat ground.
We have had many VAG ea888 engines in the family. They are sensitive för uneven ground. Could be very confusing!
For now we have 2 of them, a VW and Leon Cupra. They don't consume much oil, I use 5w-30 504.00

If it was burning that much oil i'm sure you'd see it and smell it. I agree with what the swede said, maybe the ground isn't level or you hadn't left it long enough for the oil to drain to the sump. If there really is that much oil gone, then i'd suspect a leak.

Thanks for letting me know James, I had a MK5 Ibiza and I basically trashed that car before I grew up with maintaining vehicles and now I am pretty meticulous, the Ibiza ended up with piston ring failure so my heart sank when I saw what I saw 😩

I shall put that one on the list mate, is it good? Need the recommendations for places to eat to be honest last year me and the missus lived on fish and chips and Chinese because where we are there isn’t much internet for research 🤣

Yeah I checked this morning before we headed out to Kendal, so it should have had plenty of time to be at the bottom, the driveway is fairly flat to be honest, but I may check again somewhere else, bought a bottle of 504 00 5W-30 as they didn’t have the 0W-30 I ordered weirdly 🤣
