im currently looking into going 1.9 on my motor but im now thinking of the 2.1 ive seen done on a TT

or maybe 2.0 just for abit more strength

has anyone had any experience with either or knows anything i may want to know?

the larger displacement engine will be good for torque and low down power. It will also spool the turbo faster.
But is it really nessesary? with 300+HP and FWD you'l have enough fun.
If I were to do this I'd do a 20/20 motor (2.0l 20v) using a diesel block and crank (I think thats what I read somewhere). But personally I'm raising the rev limit a bit and using the bigger gt30 to get more power. Hopefully that works out for me.
 
i would just bore to 1.9 as i have done, then you dont play with how the car will rev, with larger crank it wont feel as revvy, but of course allot more power and torque
 
I have seen one of those TSR ones being mapped with an IHI and it was a beast!
In an octy, was running over 1bar of boost at 2500 revs! Real grunty motor by all accounts. expensive compared to a 1.9 though...
 
Dans A3 quattro runs 2ltr,eurospec crank. which is actually lighter than 1.8T one.

how deep is your budget.
82.5mm or 83mm bore on eurospec's crank would get ya the ability to run big turbo without the lag....

then there's the simple question of traction.

Bill I spoke with James (I think ) from JBS at inters, he said that he didn't advise going 2.0L "as it just didn't produce the power" was his words, "just go to 83.5mm bore" was his advice??? :shrug: I thought that going 82.5mm with an 8.5:1CR and the 92.8mm EuroSpec crank would have made good long term sense as in my mind it would make the engine better for everyday use due to the improved bottom end torque and minimise lag allowing for a reasonable sized turbo to be used on a day-to-day basis...... Does that make sense to your way of thinking?? :help: You could have knocked me over with a feather when he more or less said that it was cr@p and it wouldn't do as I expected.

Well we can all have opinions. :)

2ltr will produce significant more torque and allow earlier spool on 'bigger' turbo's. This has been proven by Jabba some time ago on a mk4 golf (agu) on just a VF22, which it max'd out by 4K rpm from increased airflow from the increased capacity. 82.5mm bore did'nt do this alone.

83.5mm bore is extreme and leaves very little wall thickness between bores for head gasket sealing.. I went 83mm and thats "close" to too much imho.

2ltr is more expensive but more stroke will allow more airflow, and eurospecs crank is lighter than 1.8t so revs might not be as limiting as you think.

would love to see Dans A3 up and running on his 2ltr motor..
 
custom je 83mm pistons cost around 400, then bore costs around 90 quid from RPM

so to go 1.9 is around 100 or so more than the stock 1.8.

if you want 2.0 then you need the 92.8mm crank and also request the pistons to have the pin moved up 3.2mm. so you will need an extra 500 or so for the crank.

then the rest is labour, unless you DIY

oh and remeber your 20mm scat rods ;)
 
hmm, im liking the sound of 2.0l and eurospec crank! not as expensive as i thought!

golf gti! someone else at inters said to me the same thing as you were told about going 2ltr/2.1! james told him that a 1.9 is as much as you need to go? jbs seem happy enough to fit a twin scroll turbo set up on a 2.1 TT though;)
