I thought i'd ask in here as its acommon engine in the tolly.

How do you tell if the V5 is a 150 or a 170? i was lead to believe that the 170 always came with sat nav but as i'm now looking at the MK4 golf with the same engine.

Is there anyway to tell from just looking at it as i noticed that some have the ignition leads running accross the top of the engine cover and some don't.

Very confused :help:

I also thought the 150's had the leads running across the top of the engine and the 170's dont.
Not 100% sure though.
Mines is a 2001 170 model and doesn't have the leads across the top, nor does it have Satnav.
Have you checked the V5 forums as there are more golf owners on there?

There's also the V5 badge on the golfs where the V5 (silver) is 150 and V5 (red 5) is the 170.

Off topic, but nice youtube clip kewe :)

I love the toledo vs bla blah clips too. Its amazing what cars they race the humble tolly against.

Yup been over to the V5 forum and your correct the leads accross the top are the 150's!

Didnt know the 170's were twin cam or 20valves either so learnt a bit.

Won't be changing until next summer but it now means i know what i'm looking for :)

Cheers

Just thought i would let you know, just in case you didn't know, there is a 1.8 Turbo 180bhp, Toledo, but it is a rare motor ;), i have the 150bhp with leads running across engine cover, the 150bhp has a cable accelerator, where the 170bhp is all done electronically

Thanks for that i thought i had seen them at some point in the past, i think 1.8t is out of the picture as i'm looking for an X reg to keep out of the new tax brackets, and the V5 is supposedly a lot more reliable.

Good thinking, as for Taxing on cars and how they are going to go up, it's a absolute, piss take, how can cars jump up by two brackets, it's just a scam by the Goverment and it sucks. [:@][:@][:@]

Thanks v5er :)
yeah the one between the Tolly and CTR always makes me laugh. The good old tolly even has a towbar fitted

The V5 is pretty bullet proof and i don't think there's a great deal of difference in performance figures between the 150 and 170 models.

Nak do you think this Car Tax hike due next March is set in stone?
I am not so sure

I would like the extra 20 horses, i'm stuck as to which one to go for, my other half doesn't like the toledo and wants me to get a golf as she drives my car too, which is also 50kgs lighter so a bit quicker.

However the golf is about £1000 more for an equivalent milage car with less toys and no leather.

I'm leaning toward a Toledo 170 with sat nav, black leather with grey suede in either red, blue or black. And if it hasnt got a spoiler its going to get one.

As for the tax i hope its not concrete as i would like a newer car than an X reg and you can pick up some little minters for not a lot of green.

LOL, yeah just noticed the Toledo 170 in your signature.
Can certainly vouch they are good motors, just make sure you pick up a good un and keep us posted.

The revised car tax prices for April 2009 to March 2010, with example cars:

M 255+ 400 440 Range Rover Sport 3.6 TDV6

Check your vehicle handbook for your car’s exact CO2 emission figure and use the table to find out how much it’ll cost to tax next year.

How much extra road tax will you pay?

What changes will be made in 2010?

If you buy a new car after April 2010, you'll have to pay a new first-year rate – or ‘showroom tax’ – based on CO2 emissions.

New cars which emit less than 130g/km of CO2 will be exempt from car tax for the first year, but more polluting cars will have higher fees. For example it’ll cost £950 to tax a vehicle which emits more than 255g/km for the first year, then £455 each year thereafter.

Prices will also be revised for the 2010 rate to the following:

Tax band CO2 emissions (g/km) Price now (£) 2010-11 price (£)
A 0-100 0 0
B 101-110 35 20
C 111-120 35 30
D 121-130 120 90
E 131-140 120 110
F 141-150 120 120
G 151-160 145 150
H 161-170 145 175
I 171-180 170 205
J 181-200 210 260
K 201-225 210 300
L 226-255 400 415
M 255+ 400 440

I know you put something like this already Kewe, in another thread.
I just cannot find anywhere, where it states the New tax groups, might not be going ahead, all fingers are pointing at, that it is going ahead and it's not helping me at all, got my hands on a Tolly 1.8 20vt, 2004 plate, engine problem, checked tax groups and in April 2009 jumps from a Group F to K, thats 4 groups, justify that, just made more Tax Groups, to pull the Money in, if i don't tax it before April 2009, will cost me £300 for 12 months, never right and i'm just talking about a 1.8 Turbo, i'm afraid if i carry on i will just wind myself up, so all i can say is , what i have to say about the Goverment is a :censored: file, but it's not good.

There is still some confusion, even staff at DVLA, don't know whats happening, i hope i'm wrong and it's just another f##k#p by the Goverment just like the CSA

Its the size of it that puts her off as she hates driving booted cars, (flashback to the moment i bought a previous car ;)) Drive, features and everything else she likes.

As said before, the 150 has red ignition leads over the top, the 170 don't..

Also, from what I've heard, the 150 has a bit more low end grunt than the 170  someone correct me if I'm wrong tho..
I know this was the case with vauxhall - An old 8 valve 2 ltr had better low torque than the 16V ecotec, but the 16v'er had more high end bhp.

Slightly off topic tho, but kewe, did your toledo come with the white dials as standard? What do they look like at nght?

I thought so :)

I heard a V5 golf this morning with a posh exhaust on, sounds the dogs danglies, not sure if it was a 150 or a 170 tho. Had a private plate on too.

No not as standard. I bought a cheap set of ebay but think theyre pretty rubbish. Looking at getting a custom set from skewer. There is also a complete thread about this subject on here.

Hehe, I found that a couple of days ago.. They look OK in the day, it just goes wrong at nighttime.
