20000 Mile Service Schedule

Hi All - I'm new to the forum so please bear with me and I'd appreciate any help and guidance on the following.

I own (well it's the wife's) a 2009 Altea 1.9 Stylance which is more or less due a 20000 service. I'm loathe to pay the dealer prices if I can avoid just to drop the oli out and change a filter or two (been quoted £185.00 at Bristol Street Motors) so was looking to use a local garage but need to provide them with the full schedule list.

I may be missing something in the hadbooks but I can't see a breakdown of what needs to be included in this service and was hoping someone could direct me to the list of activities required.

My understanding is that as long as genuine SEAT parts are used anyone can carry out the service without impacting the warranty - again I'd appreciate any guidance on this.

Many thanks in advance

Regards

Hi

You'd do well to carry out the work yourself; the 20k service isn't a major undertaking at all.

For my 2.0 Tdi, the work schedule for a 20k INSPECTION SERVICE reads as follows:

Engine oil & filter: Replace

F&R brake pads: Check

Service interval indicator on instrument panel: Reset *SEE FOOTNOTE

Tyres: Check condition, pressures, etc

Interior lighting: Check operation

F&R lights: Check operation

Windscreen wiper (and headlight wiper) system: Check operation/fill as req'd

Exhaust installation: Check

Battery: Check

Poly-V belt: Check condition

Basically, you're looking at an oil & filter change (£20 oil, £5 filter), plus some visual checks and common sense observations... hardly worth £185.00, which should take no longer than 45 mins to carry out.

Be sure you know where the engine oil filter housing is located (pretty unconventional set-up, but easily accessed), and take time to remove the engine under tray carefully.

In respect of warranty cover, it's a minefield. Personally, I've never paid much attention to the subject, prefering to carry out my own service/maintenenace work, regardless.

The basic service operations and work schedules are detailed in the MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME BOOKLET that accompanies the vehicle (pages 8-14)... it's basically a schedule of inspection service work, alternating between 1 yr (10k), 2 yr (20k) and 4 yr (40k), mileage intervals - all pretty basic stuff, with additional mileage/age-specific work, such as cam belt replacement, brake fluid change, etc as required.

Hope this fills-in some of the blanks - let us know how you get on.

:)

*RESETTING Service interval indicator:
1) Depress & hold trip reset toggle
2) Turn ign to 'on' position
3) Rotate trip reset toggle to right hand side

Thanks for the reply Addict. I'm not too handy with cars but I know that I can now take it locally and get the right work carried out by someone I can trust and not pay exorbitant amounts to the dealer just to get their nice stamp on the log book.

I'll come back once I've had it done (a few weeks away yet) and let you know what I had to pay)

Thx again

YW.

I guess that a reputable independent garage is probably the best option in your case - certainly better than the main dealer route.

The oil & filter prices quoted originally are motor factor sourced... expect to pay slightly more from a garage, particuarly if OEM/Seat branded parts are required.

Ensure that the garage gives you an invoice detailing fitment of genuine parts and words the service thus: SEAT 20k Inspection Service - as per SEAT service schedule.

This should cover the necessary bases in the event of a warranty claim, BUT nothing's certain... proceed with caution.
