2003 Cupra R wont turn over

Hi

ive tried searching but havent found the answer

car battery is fine and fuel pump primes when opening the door.. turn key and dash lights come on as expected.

when turning the key to start nothing happens

tried spare key in case of immobiliser issue

tried bump starting it but that wont even kick the old girl into life

has anyone else had the same issue?

Are you getting a click from the starter solinoid?
Could be stuck
Or it's an earthing issue if the battery is good

no noise from the starter at all :-(

i think i will have to take the battery out and have a good look at the starter motor and wiring. i know there is an earth point near the battery

no fault codes showing either..

I'm no mechanic but if the starter motor was gone the car would have started when you gave it a kick start. Wish I could help, sorry.

Try sticking a jump lead from the starter to an earth point and see if she cranks that will prove an earth issue

Do you have an aftermarket alarm/immob on it ? Or standard ?

get a electrical tester or get a indicator bulb solder wire to each end and touch one end to the live from battery to a part of the body to make sure the light lights up. then put one end on starter lead and touch the earth wire of the light to the engine if the light lights up the wires your trying light upi i had a fault you speak of on a audi turned out the wiring where it plugs in to the connectors for the coils had broken with age so i took of the coils and resoldered a new connection to the coils.wire has snapped because it was hard and just broke away. you could not see until you took the ignition coils of.and immobilizers do become faulty with age .if the starter wiring is ok and there is power coming from the ignition barrel when you turn the key to start .you may have immo blocking start.

take a spark plug out connect a lead to earth it to the engine try turning the engine over and see if the spark plugs are firing and also when you take out the spark plug check them to see if you smell fuel on them if you can smell fuel you know fuel is getting to the cylinders. the wiring looms do fail in cars in the vag/audi seat skoda range. you need to check if theres power getting to the spark plugs. if theres no sparking at the plugs you need to check if theres any power coming from the wiring that connects to the coils. and check the fuel pump in the fuel tank is getting power. if theres no power going to all the parts then its ignition barrel or immo or a fuse or relay.

have you checked fuses one of my coil packs decided to go and melted then shorted and blew a fuse when fuse went it wouldnt do anything i had dash lights though

Start simple.

If the engine isn't turning - i.e. no action from the starter motor at all, check that the connections on the starter itself are good.

Failing that, check that you're getting 12V to the low tension (smaller) connection when you turn the key, and go from there.

eventually it just turned out to be a faulty starter, god knows when it wouldnt bump start.
