Dear All,

Hope everyone is ok!.

I have a 2008 Ibiza 6J in colour Amarillo Citrus Yellow. Since owning the car I have been attempting to keep this issue at bay. Where the bottom of each wing meets the sill it is secured with a couple of bolts that are on a plate (spot welded?) visible with the door open. This seems to be where water collects, I am guessing this is a high impact area, also behind the plastic wheel arch liner at the bottom this fills with crud/muck etc again high impact area. I hope the attach pictures explain more.

I am looking at trying to attempt to stay off the rust as I need to keep the car. I am getting the paint work sorted, and I am looking at using some hammerite inside the sill area. I have cleaned out that area from crud/muck etc. Will make sure its dry/clean, do you think I should use black hammerite after using some spot hammerite Krust. To help I have also fitted front mud flaps.

I hope people understand what I am going on about, wonder if it is a design fault as the plastic wheel arch liner is not fully secured at the bottom on mine not on my wifes 2014 Ibiza. Newer Ibizas I have noticed the wheel arch liner is secured right at the bottom to stop mud/rain and crud from getting in the sill area.

Thanks

Jason

I have mixed views/ideas/concerns over fitting mud flaps, yes they can reduce impact damage from road debris, but also assist in trapping mud and so moisture behind them. Currently none of my cars have mud flaps fitted, I would suggest that you slacken off the wheel arch inners on all 4 wheels and get rid of any nasty stuff being stored in there and waxoyl any areas that look like rust is starting to get a hold. The same thing goes for the long plastic side covers.
