Model Year 20/21 2021 Cupra Formentor boot latch not opening

Hi everyone,

I wonder if you can help me please?

My 2021 Cupra Formentor has developed an intermittent problem with the exterior boot release button not working. It probably fails more times than it works at the moment. The catch is fine (I can release it with the interior boot emergency screwdriver release). I think it might be an electrical issue, as the button makes the usual buzz/beep sound, but maybe not as loud as it used to. With each repeated attempt to open the boot, the sound becomes weaker with each button press. So it kind of feels like the electrical circuit is losing charge each time - possibly the solenoid within the mechanism?

Has anyone had the same please, and know how to fix it? Cupra were quoting £150 just for the diagnostics, but I really think it's a simpler thing to fix.

Thanks very much,
Matt

Happened to my car two weeks ago, scanned the car and boot lock motor was short circuit. Replaced it and all good now.
So to be clear it's the latch on the boot lid, was about £95 ISH.

Hope this helps
Legend, thank you very much, Matt.

Just to check, did you replace the entire latch or just the motor please? I've been trying to search for the motor unit online, but can't find one, just the entire latch system.

Cheers,
Matt

I replaced the whole latch, if you Google the number on the motor it does come up on AliExpress but you have to buy 10 for £60!
The motor looks like it's out of a scalextric car,😂

There is a little plastic door where the cable goes inside the latch open this and then you can twist the cable 90 degrees to release it.

Hi Gents... I have same issue with the intermittent opening and just wanted to check that changing the mechanism resolved the issue. (I am assuming it did but before I part with my money just confirming).
Additionally has anyone tried just changing the motor? Didn't know if it is worth buying a quantity as highlighted previously and then making the remainder available for others to buy.
Thanks

Morning oily yep sorted it out, mine started the same, every now and again wouldn't open, steadily gets worse til it opens no more, its just the boot release mechanism not the whole motor,my tips came off Matt, the previous post,n greatly received!!!easy fix, taking the plastic trim off can be a faff but its definitely a diy job,i couldn't source the part from cupra, its on back order there are that many failing, part is on all vag group cars, got the part code from cupra, the original part is discontinued, and sourced it from "parthaus" on net, cost £60 and a bit of faffin for an hr.

I rekon changing the motor would probably work too, tiny lil thing thats easily removed,if i just had the motor rather than the full mechanism i'd have probably given that a whirl 1st!!!

Not sure if photo of parts number uploaded, let me know if you need it.
Hi Dave... Thanks for feedback. I've just searched the web and it looks as though you can now get just a single motor for around £10. Think I'll order one and give it a go. (That's as per Matt's image with part number).
If you have any additional numbers they would be greatly appreciated... Thanks
