Its pretty easy to be honest,couple of screws then prise the trim off to release all the plastic clips that hold the trim on,hardest part essentially is lining all the clips back up once you have put the new mechanism in,takes a bit of force to bash it back on,i was going a bit gentle,once i gave it a bit of a whack,job done!

silly question where are the screws located ?

Apologies mate,the screws are attaching the mechanism to the car,there isn't actually any on the trim,i jus used a flat headed screw driver,or a trim remover to pop the 1st clip out then got my fingers behind n popped the rest,and the trim is split into 2 halfs you only have to take the top half off which houses the mechanism.leave the bottom half in situ ?

Ok so update on my one as it has the electric power open / shut tail gate.

The rear plastic inner cover will pop off (no screws or fixings) but you need to be a bit brave for the initial bit.

My one has a latch and also a separate larger motor unit above it which once the boot lid closes pulls it shut tight this links to the latch via a pull cable.

I took the cover off just to confirm part numbers and to prove the manual release should the release on button fail completely.

Since this the boot has behaved itself so i suspect there may have been a dead spot on the commutator of the small 12v dc motor that operates the release which has fixed itself due to numerous operations of the boot over a couple of days..

I have ordered what appears to be a direct replacement for the motor from ali express and will inspect and test when it arrives see pics below from website, search "1Pcs For Volkswagen Eos CC Jetta Tiguan and Passat B7/CC Car Trunk Lock Actuator Latch Release Door Lock Motor Accessories Auto" or the number on the top of the motor and you should be able to get the same, for some reason I can't directly link the specific one I ordered sorry.

I'll attach some pics I took of the boot with the cover off later (cant do it at work).

As and when the boot becomes problematic again I'll have the motor and should be able to do a swap out.

Yep,i had the full mechanism,but actually just took that motor out at 1 point as it was so easy and contemplated just changing that,i only changed the whole thing because i'd bought it n thought the rest would just end up in bin ?

Hi All
I have just changed the motor on my boot latch and wanted to share. (I don't have the remote opening/self closing).
All was straight forward. Removal of the trim was probably the most stressful but even that came off without any issues. I've attached a few images. Three small screws have to be removed to access the motor once the lock is taken off. (You could probably do this without even taking the lock off).
Once the plastic cover is off you need to very gently prise the motor out... the electrical connection is via 2 pins that slot into the motor.
I could only source the motor from AliExpress but it was here within 6 days at a cost of £10.
Thanks to all who have previously posted re this issue as it made the whole process so much easier.

Hi everyone,

I wonder if you can help me please?

My 2021 Cupra Formentor has developed an intermittent problem with the exterior boot release button not working. It probably fails more times than it works at the moment. The catch is fine (I can release it with the interior boot emergency screwdriver release). I think it might be an electrical issue, as the button makes the usual buzz/beep sound, but maybe not as loud as it used to. With each repeated attempt to open the boot, the sound becomes weaker with each button press. So it kind of feels like the electrical circuit is losing charge each time - possibly the solenoid within the mechanism?

Has anyone had the same please, and know how to fix it? Cupra were quoting £150 just for the diagnostics, but I really think it's a simpler thing to fix.

I think I can see this, it looks like a crescent, but I can't figure out how to operate it. There's a plastic piece that looks way too flimsy for me to manipulate. Any tips gratefully received!
