Hello, says it in the title really, could I get away with this as I can get some tyres cheap with loads of tread and they're yoka's. LCR are 225/40/18 usually. Cheers

Don't think you can as the first numbers are the width the second numbers can be different as that's the hight of the side wall so can be smaller or bigger the last number is the size of you wheel and always stay the same.

I know what the sizes mean, I'm just wondering because the size is going to be affected by both the first two as there will be a tiny bit of stretch on there.

A tyre calculator tells me that it will be 4.55% less size, going from 637mm - 608mm.
-29mm, 3cm. I think I could live with this? Anyone want to dissuade me?

My biggest problem would be the smaller profile will harshen the ride and if the worst happens and you have an accident you can lose our because you're no running the correct tyre size for the vehicle (mate of mine lost out on a claim because he ran smaller tyres). That and it would make your speedo read higher than your actual speed (only a few MPH).

They wont do any harm just a little bit more harsh of a ride (as said above) but watch out for the potholes as its less tyre to protect the alloy.
