I was about to run 215/45/17's next weekon my new alloys they give the options to run the rims on 205/50/17, 215/45/17, 225/45/17. as anyone on here got 215/45's on a mk4?? my only issues and doubts is rubbing on full lock apart from that dont see where any problem could be.
i tried this for my tdi sport a couple years ago, and no, no go it makes the car too high, its ugly, and as you can guess there is much rubbing on front tires (the car was standart, no lowering)..

i don't understand why they would rub members running lowered suspension have no problems of rubbing on 205's so this must mean that there is enough room for 215's on standard suspension as the difference is truly small
can anyone clarify exactly as i am soon to purchase my new T1R's 215/45 17 as i have been told previously by numerous members these shouldn't rub
Its not becouse of 215 my friend, its becouse of "45". Its rubbing becouse of 45 cheek (we call it cheek here in Turkey yes . I drove 215/40/17 too for a time, there was no problem of rubbing with 215/40.
i'm gonna stick 215/45 17's on my FR in around 2k miles time (may even go with 215/50)...the 45's should fit no problem and no rubbing as they'r only 7.5mm wider each side, therefore, the difference in actual tyre "size" is minimal. the 50's are more noticeably larger and will need to have a butchers before making a decision as to whether to go for them.
When i got my Octy VRS rims they had almost new 205/50 17 tyres on, I thought "Brilliant, won't have to fork out for tyres for a while" How wrong I was, they rubbed at the back over bumps on standard FR suspension. I changed them to 205/40's and they're fine haven't rubbed once since, even on full lock.
