Rash,.....thats exactly what I was thinking when I was typing the post, I think I will still floor it before 2000rpm, but only when needed! And your right about the clutch, I will start saving for an uprated one, but the later I need one the better!! Cheers :)

My old 305lb/ft 130 did over 30k in 18 months, no clutch slip ever.

My new Cupra has had 298lb/ft for 3 and a half years and guess what, it has never slipped.

I had a customer with a 160k PD130 Golf the other day, remapped from 10k and yes, no clutch slip ever!

To those that kill clutches, do you know how to drive? Sounds harsh, but I REALLY don't get it!

I hear you, I have 292lb/ft as per last RR and have done since 8,000 miles. Im now on just a tad over 51,000 miles with not a HINT of clutch slip. True everything else seems to be breaking on my car, but hey thats just me :)

no offense mate but WHAT is the point in remapping a diesel if you cant nail it till after 2000rpm they dont rev enough as it is! let alone restricting it even more! imo

id get a remap when you can afford a clutch upgrade aswell just my opinion :) good luck tho

Good point mate!! Don't see the point of getting a remap without getting an uprated clutch to cope with the increased power and torque so you can drive how you like.

Get the remap and have as much fun (safely and legally of course) with the standard clutch as you dare and get the clutch done as and when needed (credit card anyone :)) i asked all these question before i got my FR TDi remaped tho, i thought i had slip in third, fourth and sixth after it was done but turned out it was just sixth and i was wheel spinning in the snowy conditions on the motorway in the lower gears:redface:. long and short of it eventually you will need a new clutch. Deal with it and prepare for it with ya lunch money as you brilliantly said. or like me you can avoid paying out for one by only having you car remapped for only a week

:EDIT: the deal with it comment wasn't supposed to sound arsy if it does :D

Some people just want improved performance but without having to shell out on further upgrades like clutches.

Even if you don't nail it below 2k rpm, you still have vastly improved performance above there - and when accelerating hard through the gears you never drop that low anyway so you get full benefit of the remap.

Other option as I keep harping on about is to just get the remap adjusted to lower the torque peak slightly to save the clutch. You still get much more torque than stock, and no clutch worries.

Mine doesn't slip at all, its quite good really (touch wood!) just worry about this kind of thing as its expensive, i've put by £700 just in case the clutch does go and my dmf needs doing...

You liked the Dinner Money one Davels?? I'm sure it will be worth it when most of my mates are pulling away from me abit slower than Normal!! Because they inevitably will!! :(

I put £2 away today, so I'm starting early! Lol! F**king Starving Though!

i haven't noticed anything (296lb/ft) but i'm only on like 1500 miles ;) time will tell, but you've got to resign yourself to the fact that the remap is just the initial outlay - the biggest killer is making everything else better around it!

Got to be honest and say if I do ever decide to remap mine, I'd be wanting a sizeable gain in power/torque, probably beyond 300lbft. I mean, the standard car has 243lbft and IMO it'd only be worth doing the remap to get a serious increase. Which means if I do it I'd be saving up for a clutch replacement...

Also, why replace the clutch before it starts slipping? Wait til it's buggered then splash out on a new one!

Anyway, it's fast enough for me at the moment. What I want is coilovers for the twisties :)

Doh, sorry, I was talking about my Cupra TDI...

(according to the "bible" aka EVO they have 243lbft although I've not had mine RR'd ever)

Ive got an uprated friction plate in mine but its giving me problems with accelarating at 2k in 3rd 4th 5th and 6th! The garage said its the dmf but i cant see how one can wear out? the car judders when reversing up slopes (parking on a road) and when flooring it at 2k, it shakes the car quite alot

A DMF is basically two metal disc's with rubber between the two to deaden the vibration from the gearbox. If the rubber starts to break down the DMF will not balance properly and cause a vibration.

I did 35k miles befor mine needed a new clutch - 177BHP & 320Lbft. Got an Allard clutch plate and standard cover plate and bearing - works a treat with only a slight judder on take up.

could you get the map and if the clutch starts to go early get the tourque clamped low down until you can afford the clutch?
