3.5mm Aux-in Socket

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy the 3.5mm Aux-in socket from Seat? My Leon is an 06 and didn't come with it fitted.

Also, how does the socket work? Does it need a special box of tricks to be recognised by the headunit or (if all else fails) will something like this http://www.shop.edirectory.co.uk/car_audio_direct/918/mia/pid/4779263 suffice?

It seems strange to me that this part should be impossible to order (which is the impression Seat dealers are giving me)... after all, what would happen if one of the newer vehicle's aux-in was broken or somehow failed, surely they wouldn't suggest to the owner that they replace the entire wiring loom?!

If someone could look into this, it would be greatly appreciated, as right now I feel as though I am banging my head against the wall.

Cheers,

Jonathan

I'm glad I'm not the only one getting nowhere on this subject with my dealer !
The only difference is that I'm after the USB connection.....

Come on, someone must have the answer

Aftermarket Aux-in

I believe that someone has fitted the CTVVGX004 Connects 2 Adapter from http://www.connects2.com/ and someone else the Dension ice>Link Gateway 300, which is great. But still leaves the question of how to mount the 3.5mm socket on the console, without using standard ugly surface mounts, http://www.action-electronics.com/grc/gc33724.jpg, which in my opinion would ruin the look of the interior.

The image, http://www.motorpasion.com/images/aux-leon.jpg, of the interior with a standard aux-in, looks much better, though sadly seems unachievable with the above aftermarket devices and parts I have found available.

Though fitting the above devices is still really a last resort, once I exhaust all options.

If Seat have taken the strange decision to not sell these parts and accessories, I believe it goes against their legal duty to keep spare parts for those of you who have the 3.5mm aux-in fitted as standard.

On that note, if anyone (perhaps someone from a dealer or better still Seat) can help in tracking down this part it would be greatly appreciated.

If you do a product search on http://www.connects2.com/ for CTVVGX004 you should get the right device for the Leon.

It is still not my idea of an ideal solution, so I have contacted Seat direct (again), to see if they can look into it. I still find it hard to believe the aux-in isn't available as a spare part.

Well I've had a chat with Tristan Wilkie from Ted Johnson Seat (Seat Parts Specialists) and he gave me the following reply :

Hi Julian
I have just had a word with one of our technitions and they have said you have to order a radio with aux or usb from the factory, the only way i think it could be done is if you order a new radio that has a aux pick up,aux lead and a center consol with the aux conection cover in it plus you got all the labour on top. Hope this all helps.

Regards Tristan

So it still looks like we can't get an aux or usb input from Seat

Like you I just can't understand why Seat would not have these parts available for later upgrades or warranty work ! :censored:

I thought the Aux in was standard, and is removed if a usb OR ipod connection is fitted. I don't have one, but I have the ipod conn.

I was lead to believe that was the case, however I have none of the above :(

AUX-IN as standard

Thanks for looking into that Julian. It is a bit of a nuisance, but the most concrete response I have had so far. I guess the only way Seat will release this part is consumer demand... we are at the mercy of Seat... which is very irritating!

I am going to explore the Dension Gateway 300 option and possibly something called a PhatBox (a HDD music player that plugs in like a CD changer)... though I always find it hard to justify drilling and cutting holes in the car unless I am fully confident with the route I plan to take.

With regard to the Dension product: If If I could neatly fit a USB port and 3.5mm socket in the factory location with little disturbance to the center console (ie. one small rectangular cut-out for USB socket and another even smaller circular cutout for the 3.5mm socket) I guess I'd be fairly happy... but first I'd have to know the Dension Gateway 300 works as described with the Leon. Has anyone fitted one of these?

Oh yeah, in response to the other poster, I believe the AUX-IN is now fitted as standard since the start of this year.. but it was a little patchy on older vehicles.

Well I like the sound of the Phatbox, but having searched the net I can't find a price for it anywhere ! I also couldn't see if it fits a Leon Mk 2.... although if it fits a Golf Mk5 then it'll surely fit ?
I also like the idea of the Dension Gateway 300, but at £170 its alot of money...
although for all I know it may be a cheaper option than the Phatbox !
