Basically which one would you recommend? I was thinking of the 3.94 but after speaking to the bloke that I'm getting to fit it, he said the 4.25 was mental in his 2.1 Mk1 Golf.

So just looking for some advice, think it's more aimed for RobT, m0rk, stu.... but if anyone else got any advice it'll be great! :)

Cheers!

It improves the accleration in every gear but you will lose top end.

If you download the spendsheet from my previous thread and look at the last table (02A box) change the final drive number and it shows the speed and ratios of each gear.

I just get confused when I start looking at the ratios lol

3.94, unless you never drive on the road, 4.25 might look good on paper, but you will be doing 4000RPM at 777mph and it will get noisy, boring and expensive on fuel!

you have to decide, and be honest, what you use your car for - I have a 4.25 and its fantastic but I only really use my car as a toy and it has a 8.5K+ rev limit so that extends what I can do in every gear anyhow

use the spreadsheet, think what speed you spend most of your time at (do you use motorways a lot for eg) and see what revs that corresponds to with each FD ratio in top gear, then go out and hold those revs in 3rd on a dual carriageway or suchlike and see what it sounds like......

Martyn knows his stuff so listen to his advice also
