3RD gear!

since ive had my cupra r my 3rd gear has been crunching on hard accleration, (did'nt notice this when i brought the car), but none of the other gears do this!

Just wondering if anyone has got any ideas on what's causing it?

i thought this was fairly common and that a change of gearbox fluid usually sorted it?

yeah but the oppnion i got from looking on here, is that its only a tempery fix. i could be wrong. i hope i am

Had the same problem on my cupra, going from 2nd to 3rd at high RPM the box would crunch.
I changed gear oil to redline MT-90 and it cured the problem.

Where did you read the gearbox was knackered? Would like to read that myself.

reading this thread has made me realise that mine does this as well every so often.

I was under the impression it was driver error, but now i have an excuse.

Is the fluid easy to change? (sorry not very mechanic minded)

not sure its that easy to change, not like oil where you can undo something and drain it.
But any competant garage could do it without issue. Clearly something worth doing with decent oil.

It would be very easy with a lift, without not too sure.
There is a drain hole and a filler hole and these take a special tool to open.

I think you will need 3 bottles, gearbox holds over 2 litres and each bottle is less then a litre.
It's not cheap either, £14.10 a bottle from opie oils.

No problems at all, I got the oil changed about 5k miles ago,

Where else can you get this tool in England?

It happens to me too, at high revs sometimes i miss the gear change, i best change the oil and hope it fixes the problem!
