57 plate MK2 Leon FR TDI 170 hestitation and stuttering

Hey all,

Ive got a 57 plate Leon FR TDI, its developed a problem fairly recently.

Around October 2011 it started having a minor hesitation at anywhere between 2700 and 3200 rpm. took it into the dealers and they ran a diagnostic, to no avail.

When in the garage, they changed the injectors and corresponding loom as there had been a recall due to a manufacturing fault.

After it came out of the garage it was running perfectly until a few of weeks ago, when the problem came back with a vengance. its getting really bad now, stuttering in most gears between 2500 and 3500. its not the DPF doing a regen, because the idle speed is normal (750 rpm).

ive had a bit of a search around, and the general consensus is that its the EGR valve or the MAF sensor. the only problem is that all the threads ive seen seem to be having the problem much lower in the rev range than me.

It seems to be making a strange noise off throttle occasionally, which i can only liken to a formula 1 off throttle blown diffuser type sound, which is a bit strange.

Also, since the new fuel injectors were fitted, the DPF light has been a lot more prone to coming on after only a weekends worth of town driving, which it never did before.

the only other things i could think of would be maybe a split pipe somewhere around the turbo, or some kind of fault in the fuel system?

Anybody have any ideas?

yeah its on about 52k miles

i got an extended warranty from Listers when I bought the car, and the stealership said that because I reported the problem before the warranty ran out then it would get fixed under warranty if the problem came back. lets see if they're true to their word.

Mass airflow meters dnt always throw up error codes. You can measure mass airflow on vag com though. I would change it. Have you checked your fuel filter and air filters are not clogged?

hi all, got the same problem with my fr tdi170, it's on a 57 plate and has done just under 27k miles. would it still be the same two areas to look at?

it's going in next wed to the local dealers to have the injectors looked at, then the garage i bought it from will be trying to sort this out!
i'm just trying to find out a little bit more about the bits & pieces and how everything works (only had it two weeks!) so i'm on the steeper bit of the learning curve at the moment!

Same as!!!... Ive had my Leon FR Tdi now for less than a week, its booked in for the injectors and loom next week. I ran my tank down till the light came on, but since then its started stuttering at about 2500, like theres a blockage in fuel system or something.

Think I'm going to give it a good service myself. It was serviced last September, but I'm going to do it myself. Oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter.... anything else I can go over?

DPF regen is when ECU perform DPF cleaning process and when Your car idle at 1000rpm this is second stage of DPF regen

Did you find the cause of this? I have a 2008 fr doing exactly the same thing, I have dpf delete so it isn't that i've cleaned and checked turbo blanked egr, replaced fuel filter and injectors + loom were replaced early this year. There is a lot of oil in the fuel so my next step is to change the fuel pump on side of the engine and run it out of fuel and refil it.

it was the DPF causing it to idle fast so went for long run at high revs and DPF lght went out ! but its on again today, it will only let me do short runs for a week
