5w30 or 5w40

Changing my glow plugs at weekend and will also do an oil change for good measure - confused as to whether I need 5w30 or 5w40 fully synthetic oil

any advice?

5w-30, make sure its VW 507 00.

To meet manufacturer specifications as to the quality of oil used, to avoid damage to the engine etc caused by incorrect/poor quality oil.

ok cheers - why does ECP say my car uses 5w40 - as does the seat dealer?

I just look for one that says okay for PD engines

Either would be OK in your engine, though 5w30 is generally recommended around here! And for what it is worth, what I use on my PD130 ASZ.

5w-30 VW 507 00 is the latest spec, it superceeds vw505.01 5w-40 in most applications. So either is fine tbh. Except the Cupra tdi which calls for VW 506.01 0w-30, which again is superceeded by 507 00.
