Hello,

I know this has been covered before but what are your guys opinions? Car is 2.0 TFSI FR which is stage 1 remapped. Rtech's website has suggested to run 5w40 Quantum Platinum however there is still mixed reviews on this topic... That oil only reaches VW502 where as Castrol edge 5W30 for example is full vw504

Thanks for the help,

Daniel

I have always used either Castrol Edge 5w30 or Quantum Long Life III 5w30 which I believe is made by Castrol.
My cars have always been mapped and the Quantum stuff is good enough to put as OEM by Audi in an RS6, R8 etc...

The only reason you should deviate away from 5w30 to 5w40 is

A. Running serious power i.e running well north of 300bhp or

B The engine likes to use a bit of oil, so a 5w40 should help a little with consumption.

I run 5w40 and drop it every 5k . Engine seems to keep hold of it alittle better than 5w30. Unless you're thrashing it stick with 5w30 like you said

5W30 is like water.

If you are tuned at all, or drive the car particularly hard (I.e. more heat), i would recommend a 5W40 as would anyone that knows these engines. 5W30 is great for longlife 20k servicing and for fuel economy & emmisions etc on a standard car, but when you move away from manufacturers spec i'm not sure why people have trouble moving to an oil that will provide better protection

The manufacturer approvals don't mean anything other than that the oil company stumped up a load of cash to get it approved so that they can officially have the 502/504/505/507 plastered on their bottle
