I'm currently aiming for 400 miles for a full tank with my FR TFSI. So far I haven't managed it, but recently I've switched from Tesco 99 to Shell V-Power 99 and the latter seems to give considerably better mpg for some reason. I wouldn't have believed there could be much difference between two brands of 'super' if I wasn't checking it myself! ;)

Pardon for my ignorance but if you did run out of diesel dont you have to have breakdown recovery to flush the system or something? Its not just a case of putting more diesel in once you've ran out is it?

The reason I ask is my mate has a Civic he ran out of diesel a couple of months ago, I took him some diesel, put it in, tried to start the car and nothing happened, called the AA and they guy said you have to re flush or bleed? the system again once your run dry?

Starts ok after a few attempts. Had ones in the past that you have to squeeze a bell.... to prime.

Done it btw, pics to follow.

Last night.

No way near as low as I've had the needle in the past. Will go out at lunch to fill it. Maybe round it up to 620. I'm guessing as I've been driving carefully for quite a while that the range is more accurate than usual so I'm not going to push it too far or I'll end up pushing it!

Just back from lunch. Went to fill and it drive about a bit more just to make it a tad higher and I ran out.... OF TIME!!!

Still on 5 range when I filled it and the needle is off the bottom.

Sorry for the quality of the pic...had the flash on.
Hopefully I will get another 580/590 to this tank but 600 would be pushing it I think (Or I cave in and fill up )

Help!!!!
I'm stuck in my worst nightmare, I'm reading a thread on a forum for enthusiasts of a sporty brand thats specifically named after the sporting arm of that brand, where people have bought quick cars and are then driving them as slowly as possible to get the best economy, why not get a Leon Ecomotive a Toyota Prius or maybe just .............a life!!!

I'm sure the bloke in the 118 was simply wishing you'd get out of his lane so he could get where he was going before losing the will to live.

^^^^^ Haahaa there goes another rib.

At least in an FR you can have a choice of economy or speed.

Out of interest, what sort of speed did the OP average?

Watch that you dont go to the limit in your TDI FR cars. I did this and the gunk at the eond of the tank blocked up my fuel injector. Took a week to get it sorted and running finr again.

So just be ware.

Compare the looks of the FR with the Ecomotive. The spec? I use the grunt when I need to but was interested to see what it could do. I don't feel the need to rag it everywhere. If I did I'd have bought a petrol car. Probably not a 5 door hatch either.

118, A road.

Exactly, I read a similar argument somewhere saying you could rag the TDI all the way home just as quickly as the TFSI and still get 40mpg.

Not sure what the trip said but most of my journey is 70mph on motorways.

I guess it depends on how often you go that low and how much so called gunk ends up in there.. I ragged it home with a full tank on Friday night jsut for good measure however. Felt fine.

Trying a full week in it's new guise. I have seen a total estimated range of over 600 which I've never seen before. MPG[1] was about 48 and MPG[2] 46mpg this morning. Has about 65 miles on it. Not showing 600 (range + trip) yet.

I'd say it's about 3mpg better than it was. 622 was my best before.

I admire your patience and will power to drive in such a controlled fashion.

Only time I get decent mpg is when stuck in slow moving traffic otherwise can't resist the temptation to bury the right foot every now and then!

If I ragged everyday for a week it would feel slow. Also takes too much out of you to concentrate at the extra speed every day on a motorway.

Agree 100%. I can see the fun in country twisties but dual carriageways and motorways are boring by design and driving fast just means more changing speed and makes you tired more quickly. It's even more boring when it's a daily commute, so might as well try to maximise economy and arrive refreshed. Driving for economy can be strangely fun in a geeky way too - challenging yourself to reach targets of x mpg or y miles per tank or whatever. I was pretty chuffed when I saw 410 miles from a tank of V-Power with my pre-facelift FR TFSI DSG. :)
