Holy **** this is getting a bit heated! As someone else said I think the issue here is that your asking a bunch of guys who are harcore Leon fans and who spend a great deal of time and money putting the best things on their cars and looking after them meticulously. As the majority of folk have said the LCR is designed to run on 98 and you WILL get more performance and mpg, whether the increase in mpg pays for the difference in fuel price I dont know and I cant be bothered working out!

All that said your car will run perfectly fine on 95 im sure the majority of Leon owners across the world run them on 95 (like I said your speaking to a group of fanatics here). But as has been said aswell 98 is better for the engine in terms of keeping it clean etc. Entirely up to yourself my friend.

The thing I'm having trouble understanding is that regardless of how the car is being used, the MPG to Price Per Litre ratio remains the same.

The increase in MPG does offset the cost of V Power, so I really don't understand what possible benifits there are to 95?

Somebody enlighten me?

under heavy load & hard driving, 98 ron & above is more tolerant to pre-detonation/pre-ignition,

pre det is bad for piston crowns, cylinder temps, piston rings, etc etc,

so in essence you're safeguarding your powertrain, especially if youre running higher than stock boost levels etc.

have a looky below

But even driving carefully the 98 Ron was still better value, on a drive to work, not going over 3.5k, I struggled for 28mpg, on vpower, driving normally I manage 32 MPG, with ease. I just don't see how 95 is ever beneficial, both from a performance and financial perspective?

Could it be due to mine being stage two mapped, so the difference being exaggerated in comparison to standard?

I dont know if its becuase your cars are chipped or not but I saw very little difference in mpg between running normal and vpower, certainly not the 3 - 4 mpg some of you are claiming. I ran mine on normal when I first got it till I realised I should probably be feeding it something better than that (first car with a proper engine you see :)) and with a mixture of town and country driving sensibly most of the time but with the occasional thrash I have always got roughly 32 mpg average. With really old man driving I once got 45 mpg on a 70 mile journey and that was definately on regular petrol.

Im not arguing with anyone, I buy v-power all the time and understand the benefits it gives but all of you are basing your arguments on the fact that v-power works out cheaper overall with the increase in mpg, I dont doubt any of you but am just saying in my experience that I dont see these sizeable gains in mpg. Maybe im just getting heavier with the right foot

I think it must be something to do with the remap then mate, my MPG was that bad on 95 I swore to never use it again, plus it took £20 of V Power to return to normal. Never again for me.

Going from what you say, I think it must be the map.

If your mapped on 98 then 95 will be pure aids :D

A mapped car and fuel is a different can of worms to my car :)
So how many unmapped cars have used both?
It's a honest debate that's producing very mixed results.

Yeah stage two Revo'd on V Power.

I think we've got to the bottom of it now to be honest, if you're mapped, run high octane, if you're unmapped, call Revo

I only use v power religiously regardless of how the car is driven, most of the time it's the mrs taking it to work. That's in the current car lcr, my previous ones... Gt4, pulsar, impreza, 205 gti6, vts, Ibiza cupra x2 all run on v power due to the cars responding better and returned more mpg.
When we go on long trips to see family up country or to France on holiday we always plan to make sure we can get v power

I didn't wanna get involved in this thread but I am gonna put some costs in

I fill up with 99 Ron (tesco) yes you can high 5 me if you like!!

53 litres usually costs £75 @ 139.9 and I get 320 miles ish

53 litres Usually costs £71.47 @ 134.9 and I get 280ish

So per litre in 99 it would do 6.1 miles
Per litre in 95 it does 5.3 litres

So for 95 Ron to do the same amount of miles as I get on 99 I would have to used 60 litres @ a cost of £81.44

This is based on my Leon so others may be different

Just to add I'm getting this miles on the same journeys and the same sort of driving.

Also this is based on 2tanks of 95 one did 275 other did 285 and two tanks of 99 one did 318 other did 333

If they were custard creams or bourbons you would get a look in.

As for my car you can't argue with the facts others may be different but reading it in black and white might out it into abit of perspective even when my missus filled up with a 6p off voucher at morrisons on 95 it would still work out at £77 to do the same as 99
