what is the next garrett step up from gt2871r? ....gt30's?

if so do gt30 only come in external wastegate form?

would anyone recommend anything other that is bigger than a gt28?

cheers

HoocH

T3 GT3071 or 3076 come with external gates. The unofficial T25 versions have internal gate options. ATP turbo and the likes have info on the different options.
Im going to use a T3 GT3071 on a custom tubular manifold, when I get enough time.

what are the pros and cons of internal and external wastegates?

is there a big difference in the 2.5" and 4" inlet on the gt30's apart from intake size?

in the link from post above i saw the GT3071RWG. anyone know anything about it?

An external wastegate should be able to control the boost more effectively, but internals are more compact and easier to fit. My Tial 44 is very tight to get fitted.
The inlet size confuses me too, i assume its to do with air velocity entering the turbo. I chose the 3" inlet option so I can have 3" piping all the way from the filter to the turbo and a 3" MAF.
The 3071 in the link is a t25, my opinion is the t25 will be limited that's why i went T3. The .86 T25 housing is similar to the T3.63 but the T3 flows more at the top end.
Do some searching on the vortex, but i seem to remember that the 2876 is not popular there for some reason, i think the efficiency range doesnt suit our engines.
I spent over a year working out what turbo to get, and i still don't know how it will perform until i get the car finished.
BTW:Jon at vagworks is a good guy and knowledgeable

As above:D

Internal wastegates are fine for small turbo's, but the larger you go the bigger the internals need to be for internal wastegate to get enough of boost control. So baisically, the gt30 is the crossover size of turbo.
Personally, i'm not a big fan of internally gated gt30's.

The GT2876R isn't liked by many because of its flow carecteristics at high revs, they aren't the greatest for the high revving 1.8t.

The turbo minimivic has (gt3071 T3 .63) is my favourite for the 1.8t, but only if your starting from near scratch.
This is your problem Ho17ch, you need to decide how much custom work your willing to do/get done, to reach your particular goals. Staying with internally gateted gt28's wont set the world on fire, but their easy and almost retain the stock setup. Once you get in the realms of gt30's, you need to make alot of changes, ie wastegate, manifold, physical room, possibly ecu, pipework (ic and inlet) downpipe etc.

Hope that makes sence???

Btw, intake sizes are getting more towards bragging rights these day's, pointless but immpressive to the untrained eye:)

as for custom work it doesnt bother me too much.
im doing this because i enjoy the build aswell as driving the car so abit of hard work is good.

im just not too sure how its going to be getting an external wgate in the ibiza due to room.

what everset up im going for i need a new manifold, tip and downpipe so im thinking why not go big!

just want to see what is best for me!

being led towards the gt3071r as ive been reccomended it by a few now

just need to see if the external gate is work the extra work....if its defo worth it i dont mind doing it!

gt3071 is as big as i'd go on a 1.8/1.9 should do 450bhp max on v-power
gt3076 only on a 2.0/2.1 should be good for 500bhp max on v-power
gt35 on a 2.1 should be good for 550bhp max on v-power

Lol, if youve ever been in a car with an external gate, then you wouldn't ask that question:D
Shame your so far away, or i'd have taken you out in mine.
Wastegate location is a problem, but could be helped if you had a manifold that sits the turbo up higher. Then it would be easy.

As i've metioned, if everyone was building from scratch, then i would stress that Gt3071 externally gated is "the" only way to go on a 1.8t.
