been reading through some thread mainly the "you know you bought a MK2" thread made me laugh still want one!!

looking at getting a: Seat Ibiza MK2 2.0 16V GTi Cupra Sport <longest name ever!!!!:p

and just wondered if there's a buyers guide tried searching but could not find one?

coming from a car that's reliable id like to be more involved with the car (the BMW is solid as a rock until a rouge lamp post jumped out at me in the wet :cry: was having fun when it happened meh never mind you live you learn!

so yeah buyers guide? is there anything i need to look out for on the car itself??

what's the fastest colour btw?:cartman:

should add im going to see a copper cupra today hopefully rather excited!

When you press the clutch, if it "creaks" or doesn't feel right, this could be the "dreaded snapped pedal box"
This is a sh!t designm where it snaps the shear bolts, even when rewelded it breaks them too

Also check the engine is what it is, (look in the FAQs section in mk2 ibiza) as a lot of people have been told 16v, then they come home and it is 8v!

Check rust around arches/under-sills, very common around rear arches

Check all door handles work through the key (as the paddle of the barrel has a tendancy to break)

Check engine bay/body work of damage, as they are prone to having shunts being a hot hatch
(Sometimes they put in the wrong slam panel, so check the rad doesn't move, if it does, then its been changed with the AC one which is longer for example)

Check mileage is legit, as it can be put back easily

Check tyres for even wear (so camber is set up right)

Check remote works for locking

Then check pants when driving it ;) ps copper is the way forward, good luck

Window regulators are another one, make sure the windows go up and down with you having to push them with your hand.

MFA guage is known to lose pixels so make sure that works, its the LCD display under the rev counter.

I think Suj has covered everything else really, don't be put off by the list that he's made though, these are just things that COULD happen, they may have already happened at some point in the cars life and already been seen to. In my experience these cars are so much more solid than their french equivlants (compare a Saxo and an Ibiza at 100k each and see what I mean) and even though there is a 100 page thread about MK2 niggles its all pretty tongue in cheek really. Just make sure you use normal common sense when buying the car and check all consumable items like you would with any other car.

Do you have a link to the one you are buying? Prehaps we could have a look at it for you and decide whether it looks like a good 'un and let you know if you're paying the right price for it?

how could i have forgotten the window reg, after i just fixed it DOH lmao

not always the regulator, it has these clips that hold the seat for the window, and these tend to snap, you can get them off ebay for cheap, and not hard to fix, did mine in 30mins :)

You could knock that price down loads.

i got mine for £700 and I got the tiger stripes and mines only done 112k. 130k is loads more. i have rust on the left rear arch too. So £880 sounds a bit much.

I'd offer £700 and see how ya go.

the car itself is completely boggo standard which is nice :)
but the ronals could do with a refurb ,(have a plan for these but shall see)
the interior is well, crap for lack of a better word.
might just chuck some buckets in BUT would need to be for a fat person! any ideas?

Well if it's that bad a state then £880 is definitely overpriced. Mine had its issues but is still a very tidy car for the £700 i got it for.

no its not bad i just cant stand the trim on the seats thats it! the ronals are fine its just i want em refurbing in anthracite with a copper lip and im just trying to persuade myself to do it!

I've been seeing quite a few Mk2 beeza's going quite cheap lately, saw a copper 16v not long ago, went for £400, the wheels alone were worth that!!
If only I had the money :(

BTW tornado red is the fastest colour :D
