This is a very rough guide to catch tank fittment


This is the initial set up well mine any way

the pipe coming from the to inlet of the tank goes into the tip where the hockey puck was (remove hockey) as show here then you need an elbow into the tip witch is in the second pic

Then the pipe from the bottom inlet if the tank goes into the crank case and also T's off under the inlet manifold and joins with a metal elbow that come out of the engine as shown in these pics

Then take the pipe of from the inlet manifold and put a small pice of silicone in place and blank it off with a plug or bolt and make sure it's tight or you'll get a boost leak!

The tank dies it's job ;) it has been covered mate loads but people don't seem to get it so I though I'd try again lol besides Mo text me today a requested sone pics so thought i might as well put them up for everyone to see and not just him ;)
 
The hockey puck is there for a reason you need to keep that, all that your doing is creating a vacuum on boost drawing oil up into the tank from the crankcase that doesn't need to, the hockey puck is designed to shut off the system (PVC system, and catch tank system) acting as a one way valve under boost, every catch tank install I've seen on a 1.8t including 100's on vortex in the US do the same, oil is supposed to fond it's own way into the tank via crankcase pressure not be sucked in like it will be the way you have set it up with no hockey puck.
 
Mine was don't by dyalinks in Swindon then corrected by bill and I have no puck??

19mm ID hose, 10mm for plugging pressure source under inlet manifold, 3/4 and 3/8 in old money.

The ukmkiv's catch can install thread is the best and most informative I've seen I'll be fitting the can my dad made me this weekend, I've incorporated all the best designs cans into one.
 
That sounds pretty cool cpt so this puck in phiilics guide I'm pretty sure it says to remove it to and I would of thought bill would of put it back in if it had to be there??
 
I'm not just being a bitch but I know what the puck is for, your turbo when it creates boost is sucking air through the filter down the intake pipe, without a puck (check valve essentially) you will suck through the catch tank pipework also and mist like create enough suction to suck up what you have in the can and dump it into the intake rendering the can useless!

I'm not sure why you have been told this is right but I don't believe it is.

People that fit this way cannot understand the concept of a catch can, it's not to draw the crap up but to catch what's created by positive crankcase pressure.
 
The puck serves the same purpose in the catch tank install as is does in the PCV system, to shut off under boost and let positive crankcase pressure vent into the intake pipe.

When you think about it it makes sense at the moment you may swell have an air filter in your catch tank.
 
Sorry that was misleading, the puck shuts off under boost and when pressure via the crankcase is developed it can vent into the intake pipe, but with a can installed in between the crap thats pushed up by positive crankcase pressure it caught by the can and clean pressure sir can vent into the intake via the puck.
 
Why not just vent it to atmosphere via a breather filter on the outlet that goes into the TIP? I'm not saying it's wrong but can someone give an explanation why it's best to not use the puck? Tbh I've seen all ways on posts, with the puck, without the puck and venting via a breather filter from the can to atmosphere??
